McConnell: Obama's 'Partisan Contest' Raises Even More Doubts on Iran Deal

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Wednesday blasted the Obama administration for reducing the debate on the Iran nuclear deal to "a partisan contest" that "raises even more serious questions about its durability and merits."

"While the president may be able to sustain a veto with the tepid, restricted and partisan support of one third of one House of Congress over Americans' bipartisan opposition, it will require a bipartisan Congress to strengthen our defenses in the Persian Gulf and to stand up to the inevitable Iranian violations of the agreement that will need to be addressed after he has left office," the Kentucky Republican said.

"And because this is not a treaty, it can and should be revisited by our new president."

McConnell's comments came after Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland announced that she would support the Tehran deal.

Her decision gives President Barack Obama the 34 Senate votes needed to sustain a veto of any congressional resolution disapproving the deal.

Thirty-two Senate Democrats and two independents who vote with the Democrats now support the agreement.

The deal, announced on July 14, exchanges sanctions relief for Iran for Tehran's agreeing to curtail its nuclear program. It could pump as much as $150 billion into Iran that has been held up through sanctions.

Congress has until Sept. 17 to approve or reject the deal.

McConnell said the Senate would begin its debate next week after it returns from its summer recess. He called it "serious and consequential.

The GOP are fools for making it a treaty to begin with…

If Mitch really meant anything of what he said, he would . . . shut down the government. For starters. But he’s another collaborator.

It’s a bluff. The rats are doing this so McConnell doesn’t bring it to the floor for a vote.

Guarantee the minute the rats have to go on record they will desert Obama to preserve their own reelection efforts.

Do shut up, Turtle Boy. There is a document called the Constitution. It says that treaties are to be approved by 2/3 of the Senate. Oh, wait. You decided to throw that power away. FU Turtle Boy. Shut up.

McConnell is utterly useless. Does anybody take him seriously about anything anymore?

This is all theater. All the Senators already voted to approve Obama’s Iran deal by voting yes to the Corker bill:

All U.S. Senators except Cotton voted for the Corker bill 99-1 which made the Iran deal unstoppable. (Senator Cotton being the lone sane vote).

The Corker bill made it so only 34 out of 100 senators have to support the Iran deal for it to pass

So, why fund the 150 billion we are sending to Iran?

Who voted FOR that little check?

Same reason they fully funded Obamacare, of course. Actions speak louder than the words of Kabuki theater.

Cruz voted against cloture, which was the real vote. He later voted for the bill itself to add amendments.

Gosh, You mean to tell us 0bama (holding a busted flush with 3 clubs showing) outsmarted an old poker-faced pro like McDorkle (holding 4 aces, all showing) into folding his 5 card stud hand before the final betting round even started?

How on earth could this possibly have happened to an old pro, wizened Senator, and patriotic American like McTurkeyNeck?

The Security Council. Sanctions are off. Congress has been out of the picture since the SC vote.

How about turning this into the nuclear option and going for only 51 to defeat the bill then enough to over turn a veto? Eh, Mitch, ya got some balls?

Oh, I forgot, you’re a tranny.
