Trump rips into Hugh Hewitt after terror gaffe (Hewitt 9/18 debate moderator)
Politico ^ | 9/4/15 | NICK GASS

Donald Trump tore into radio host Hugh Hewitt as a "third-rate radio announcer" on Friday after the Republican presidential candidate struggled to answer a question about the leaders of major terrorist groups the previous day.

The move followed a familiar script for the real estate mogul who has unexpectedly soared to the top of the Republican presidential polls: When backed into a corner, go on the attack and change the headlines.

Responding to a question about his views on the Iran deal and the country's elite Quds Force from The Washington Post's David Ignatius on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Trump took the opportunity to take a shot at the California-based radio personality who will, incidentally, be asking questions at the next GOP debate on Sept. 16.

Hewitt, on his show on Thursday, asked Trump, “I’m looking for the next commander in chief, to know who Hassan Nasrallah is, and Zawahiri, and al-Julani, and al-Baghdadi. Do you know the players without a scorecard, yet, Donald Trump?” The refereneces to the respective leaders of Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State appeared to stump Trump.

“No," Trump said.

"You know, I’ll tell you honestly, I think by the time we get to office, they’ll all be changed. They’ll be all gone,” Trump said. “I knew you were going to ask me things like this, and there’s no reason, because, No. 1, I’ll find, I will hopefully find Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the pack.”

Hugh Hewitt is obsessed with trivia.

He is likable — but not a serious analyst of politics.

How many nights will Trump be up twittering about this poor performance?

Would it be fair to ask Trump what the primary religion of Israel is? And what the primary religion Saudi Arabia is?

The difference is they never apply the trivia to those like Mittens.

He will be twittering about Hewitt's poor performance until he decides it is no longer worth it.

Actually Hewett is one of the smartest of the talk show hosts.

Hugh Hewitt is obsessed with trivia.

Because he can. Trump doesn't have the intellectual chops.

They shouldn’t ask Trump questions. And Trump doesn’t need to know things. He’s going to hire people that know things.

Gotcha questions reveal more about the interviewer than the interviewee. Hewitt may or may not be smart. But he is not a good journalist, nor is he an insightful pundit.

Hewitt has been on board The Cheap Labor Express for years.
They are really terrified that Trump would shut them down.

This is the technique used by the media that might be called “the gotcha question.” Charles Gibson asked Sarah Palin about the Bush Doctrine. When she failed to give a satisfactory answer she was ridiculed. What the hell is the “Bush Doctrine?” Low information voters don’t know who the vice president is. They voted overwhelmingly for Obama. I follow events in the Middle East pretty closely and I couldn’t rattle off those names. CNN is doing its best to promote Trump. If he ever gets the nomination they will go for his throat. Are progressive ever asked these types of questions? How about: What were you doing during those 8 hours of the Benghazi attack?

Nick Carraway Was Gay and in Love With Gatsby.

Going to have to update that article to "Nick Carraway Was GOPe and Deranged by Trump".

Then why can’t he get Conservatism right?

I can’t even listen to his show he’s such a lame idiot.

He misses the mark constantly, and brands himself as a Conservative.

So people tune in thinking what he says conforms to Conservatism.

Every time I’ve listened to his program, I wind up yelling at the radio.

I’d say he thinks he’s the smartest guy around.

You see, if you know a lot of facts and can’t convert them into a grasp of Conservatism, just how smart are you?

Not very.

Someone tell Hewitt what Mohammad Ahkilu, Salami Ustinko’s, name is at this point in a political campaign is totally insignificant. And why great leaders obtain great military minds and top staff who know ALL specifics regarding foreign security affairs and for all the issues.

Inform Hewitt that new presidents have many briefing on current national security issues to get them up to speed. In fact these briefing go on throughout the duration of a president.

No wonder I never listen to Hewitt. I shut this arrogant idiot down. Hopefully Trump never goes back on this guys show. Hopefully DT destroys this jackball in the debate.

Agreed.

I’d also be interested in the similarly “tough but not gotcha” questions he’s asked the other candidates in their most recent appearances on his show.

You should see how Hewitt defends the Coker bill that has given us the Iran deal. You are right Hewitt does go after Trivia. It is almost as if he gave the questions to Fiorina ahead of time.

He kept saying in the interview with Trump that he was not looking to do gotcha questions when that is what he was doing the whole time.

Hewitt is looking for his moment in the sun like Megyn Kelly.

Hugh Hewitt is a fairly smart guy, a lawyer, knows his trade, understands a lot of subjects. But he is not anywhere near smart as Trump. Trump could teach a course on this stuff if you gave him 45 minutes to review some material. It’s all trivia, not part of the big picture. But there is only so much time he has available, and studying up on the players in ISIS has been on the back burner while he has been developing plans on immigration, taxes and trade.
