An 11-year-old boy shoots an almost 17-year-old who had broken into his home, saving his 4-year-old sister and scaring away another burglar. The burglars repeatedly tried to break into the home, finally succeeding on their third attempt.
The mother apparently purchased the handgun because of several previous attempted break-ins of her home.
One can only imagine the relief that the mother had that her children were safe.
Yet, the reaction from police and authorities was to question why the gun was so easily accessible. Police Sargent Brian Schellman told KTVI in St. Louis: Just seems at this point that any one can pull the trigger on a weapon. Its very scary.
Missouri is a state with a so-called safe storage law, one that imposes criminal liability when a minor under 18 gains access to a negligently stored firearm.
But no one seems to ask what would have happened if the children hadnt been able to protect themselves. . . .

My son and daughter both got their first firearms on their seventh birthdays.
Couldn’t care less; all I have to say to the kid is, PRETTY FINE SHOOTIN THERE TEX.
Thank you. Did you see the update.
The 11 year old kid shot the 16 year old kid out front.
It wasn’t a robbery.
Look above this post for a ways for an update.
Very sad.
I would say that you were severely under armed.
We have kept one or more in every room of the house since I was a kid.
Took my wife awhile to get used to my GOOD HABITS, at least until our first and last break-in when I was out of town.
She was actually the one to teach the kids what a firearm was and what they should be used for.
When I was a kid, the adults taught me how to handle guns.
We only had 22s, but they stood in the corner and my brother and I didn’t even think of touching them unless it was a family outing.
Today kids are fed all sorts of destructive behaviors.
Suspect your parents.
If they mistreat you, you can do anything.
No Golden Rule
No moral value
If it feels good, do it and don’t look back
Then you’ve got TV and movies showing kids violence
We never thought of doing it, because we were never shown people doing it.
We really do need to rethink what we’re doing to our kids.
It isn’t just PC. It’s so many different things.
If we got back on track morally, in ten years we would see a massive change for the better in our society.
I believe he was actually 14, but small for his age.
How old was audie Murphy when he started using a gun or Sgt York. God bless this kid.
Sounds like it might have been good tactics. Have to know more to be sure.
Well, that’s another kettle of fish entirely. If there was no attempted break in at all the first story is nothing but bird cage liner.
I agree. By 11 or 12, if the dogs barked or I heard something (My bedroom was downstairs and I was a light sleeper), I grabbed any one of the five loaded rifles/shotguns over my bed and did a perimeter check. Wild dogs, bobcats, foxes, weasels going after our chickens/ducks/cow/etc and I dispatched them, then went back to sleep. If it was a trespasser, I challenged them and told them I was armed and to get off our property.
Right - and if they were killed or raped or whatever by the invader well that would have been okay since the invader wasn’t injured during the invasion.
If indeed the 11-year-old was a perp and the 16-year-old was GOOD BOY HE DINDU NUFFIN and was looking to sell a phone to the 11-year-old, how did the 16-year-old think the 11-year-old was going to pay for it? Was the former too stupid to think about how the latter couldn’t afford it?
Sounds strange to me. Right now, the original narrative, though it may indeed be later proven incorrect, is more feasible.
Please keep in mind this is one the most violent spots in St. Louis County.
More to this story as both boys were thugs.
So, is it safe to assume that in MO, it is against the law for children under 18 to protect themselves and other members of their family with deadly force?

Way past time to drag this latte-sipping wimp cop out back and kick his liberal butt.
I knew my father’s guns were not toys like my Roy Rogers cap pistols from the time I was 5 or 6 years old..The child should get a medal for her quick thinking and effective use of the gun..
