The Totalitarian Left is put onto the defensive trying to claim that she isn’t a martyr, and even if she is all they wanted were financially ruinous fines, not jail. So it’s really not their fault.
The KY Democrats are freaking out, seeing their hold on the statewide offices and the Legislative majority put into jeopardy.
Im not making excuses for him, but assuming that Bunning was going to levy some sort of sanction for ignoring a judicial order, he seems to have stumbled (blindly?) into the one option most likely to gain her sympathy and support, make the Proggies look like a**holes a d completely undermine the KY Democrat political machine.

And he said that if Bunning were to fine Davis for not obeying his order it would amount to criminal penalties that would be illegal because Davis has not exercised all of her rights, including the right to a trial by a jury.
