Gog and Magog were actually people; Gog ruled a Kingdom where present day nation of Georgia exists. Yeah, basically the Chechans.

The Bear was and still is the ancient symbol of the Persian empire, and NOT Russia.

The lion is the ancient symbol of the Anatolians, which today we would pinpoint as the nation of Turkey.

If you want to know real Near Eastern interpretations of Revelations, go see:

What they are targeting is the Lion in Revelations - modern day Turkey.

Russia doesn’t need sub-launched missiles to target Turkey. Their land-launched missiles can reach that far.

Post # 59 makes an interesting point.

During wartime you would be correct. This, however, is a cold war.

Just having nukes in Crimea ain’t enough. Vlad Putin really, really likes chess. He will have the anti-Christ (Erdagan) caught in a crossfire, which is less likely to devolve into a holocaust.

I worked a desk at NAVSECGRU on Mediterranean-MidEast-NorthAfrican issues during mid-1980s. Things are becoming interesting in Syria.

What replaced Saddam was worst, and Tito held Yugoslavia together being neutral between the USSR and Nato, until he died. In addition to being a partisan leader in the mountains fighting the Nazis. Quite an accomplishment to say the least.

Isaiah 17

17 The burden against Damascus.

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken;
They will be for flocks
Which lie down, and no one will make them afraid.
3 The fortress also will cease from Ephraim,
The kingdom from Damascus,
And the remnant of Syria;
They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

4 “In that day it shall come to pass
That the glory of Jacob will wane,
And the fatness of his flesh grow lean.
5 It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain,
And reaps the heads with his arm;
It shall be as he who gathers heads of grain
In the Valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes will be left in it,
Like the shaking of an olive tree,
Two or three olives at the top of the uppermost bough,
Four or five in its most fruitful branches,”
Says the Lord God of Israel.

7 In that day a man will look to his Maker,
And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.
8 He will not look to the altars,
The work of his hands;
He will not respect what his fingers have made,
Nor the wooden images nor the incense altars.

9 In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough
And an uppermost branch,
Which they left because of the children of Israel;
And there will be desolation.
10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,
And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold,
Therefore you will plant pleasant plants
And set out foreign seedlings;
11 In the day you will make your plant to grow,
And in the morning you will make your seed to flourish;
But the harvest will be a heap of ruins
In the day of grief and desperate sorrow.

12 Woe to the multitude of many people
Who make a noise like the roar of the seas,
And to the rushing of nations
That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters;
But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away,
And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind,
Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 Then behold, at eventide, trouble!
And before the morning, he is no more.
This is the portion of those who plunder us,
And the lot of those who rob us.

Yes, Putin likes chess. So, why does he move a major piece to this location? What can it reach from there that he couldn’t reach with missiles from Crimea? This boomer can threaten U.S. assets in the Arabian Gulf and the Emirates. Iran is his ally, and the U.S.A. is his cold-war enemy.

What will happen if ISIS captures a Russian and burns him to death on camera? An interesting event but one I bet will not turn out so well for the IS People.

Syria under Assad poses no strategic threat whatsoever to the US

You really believe that?

. Syria was host to Imad Mugniyeh and still is to Hezbollah. Syria and Iran and Russia are allies and all three were steadfast allies even as Mugniyeh was killing Americans and Israelis since the 80s.

In case you've forgotten Mugniyeh and his terrorists killed hundreds of Marines, a US CIA station chief, targeted embassies and even launched successful terror attacks in the western hemisphere against Israel and is still active in this hemisphere. During the Clinton years the US tried to get him [as far as Clinton's efforts usually go] when he moved about on shipping in the Med but Clinton generally chickened out just as in Somalia. When Mugniyeh was finally killed - not long ago at all - guess where he was? He was in Syria meeting with the Baathist Syrian regime.

When Captain Yee, the former Christian was sent to be the muslim chaplain at Gitmo ... was caught smuggling information in and out of Gitmo, who was he working for?

He was working for Syria.

When he was trained as a muslim preacher with intention of becoming a chaplain, where was he trained in the faith?

[Note that the organization used to certify military chaplains for the military - AMFVAC if I have the acronym correct] was created during the Clinton administration and among its founders were people who were later nailed for ties to terrorists, etc.

This group sent him to learn to preach the faith. They sent him to the central mosque in Damascus, Syria. Syria, like Iraq at the time was and is a Baathist state, and while both allowed different religions both also kept tight controls on them and their trainees.

Why was Damascus secretly interested in obtaining information about and communicating with prisoners at Gitmo? It's not difficult to figure out- some of the prisoners were their assets.

Because the soft underbelly of Russia is bordered with Muslim dominated countries. Now, those Muzzies are spreading into Europe and will possibly become a threat to Russia from there in the future. In the west, in Europe, it is NATO that has antagonized Russia. Those goody 2-shoes in Europe better set about converting all the Muzzies to Christians.

The idea that we have U.S. “assets” in the Arabian Gulf and the Emirates is absurd. The late King of Saudi Arabia referred to the American military as ‘his blue-eyed slaves’. Um, no; we are not blessed with assets around the Arabian Gulf. Those fat and lazy rich Muslims can fight their own enemies.

Russia are allies with Iran only because they’ve invested too much money in Iran and want to recover some of it before the stupid Ayatollahs commit suicide. Iran intends on killing off the Sunnis and destroying Mecca, I predict. Why? It’s all about religion and sore feelings between the two sects. Whoever survives (the poor bastards!) can take on the Israelis, who I predict will wipe the fields with them.

Nope, but I could have traveled safely in Iraq when he was running things.

Funny you should claim that, given that when we invaded Iraq one of the persons our troops freed from the political prison called Abu Ghraibh was an American citizen who the regime had arrested after being accused of insulting Saddam or some such frivolous thing by some citizen looking to get brownie points. The American had been there for a few years , not that our media ever got around to reporting on his plight any more than CNN bothered to report on what the regime was doing to their field reporter who had been detained and held hostage to insure favorable reporting.

Granted, if you were a leftwing Italian priest taking oil voucher bribes from the regime in exchange for making videos about the horrors of sanctions favorable to the regime, you would be quite safe. Anyone else, not so much.

“Also- if the Russians control Syria, the Saudi natural gas pipeline doesn’t get built and Gazprom retains it’s dominating position on the European energy market.”

DING! DING!! DING!!! DING!!!!!

We have a winner, folks.
This is what destabilizing Syria has been about, FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.

When it comes to the Arab world, there are 2 kinds of leaders: Bad or Worse. Assad is bad but the rebels are much, much worse.

Syria conflict involvement may have become our business partially because Syria took in huge amounts of Iraq ‘ s WMD munitions in the lead up to war in 2003.

At the time Syria was a more responsible country than Iraq was so this is still none of our business unless we want to annex the whole Middle East and rule it as a colony.

Will it be on ESPN? If not, he won’t see it. Especially after basketball season starts but, then again, he could fill out a bracket.

Mubarak has never given the U.S. problems, Kadafy called Reagan a couple names has Assad given the U.S. any problems?
I can’t remember. He’s a disgruntled ally as far as I’m concerned. The invasion of Europe is simply the continuation of Arab Spring as Occupy wallstreet type sh__heads invade Europe and Lindsey Graham along with most of Congress and Senate can kiss my Lilly white ass, as a voter. Voters know whats going on.
