Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson knocked rival Donald Trump's immigration plan on Tuesday, saying that deporting the country's undocumented immigrants "sounds really cool" but would be far too costly and complicated.
"It sounds really cool, you know, 'Let's just round them all up and send them back,'" Carson said. "People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system, the costs - forget about it. Plus, where you gonna send them? It's just a double whammy."
Carson has been gaining on Trump, the GOP frontrunner, in recent polls. An NBC/Marist poll released Sunday found Carson has jumped to second place in Iowa among Republican voters, seven points behind the real estate mogul.
Trump's immigration plan calls for deporting the estimated 11 million undocumented workers currently in the U.S., a proposal that opponents say would cost billions and would be nearly impossible to execute. Carson said that he instead favors a plan that would allow undocumented workers the chance to become guest workers.
he outspoken leader of the GOP field has so far refrained from knocking Carson, though that could soon change if the former neurosurgeon continues his steady rise in the polls.
"I'm hoping for Ben to really hit me at some point because I love to counter-punch," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" last week.

The George Noory of the candidates.
waiting on the fence is too slow
new border control agents in the thousands must be immediately deputized and deployed all along the border with authority to arrest and imprison illegals in temporary Sheriff Joe like tent camps until processed for deportation
processing includes complete identification including photo. tattos, fingerprinting, and DNA and checking previous deportations. the process will make it known that those subsequently id’d entering illegal will be subject to arrest and deportation to a prison colony on a Pacific territorial island
no lawyers will be allowed to visit the camps or make contact with the illegals. If American courts are used, the illegals must bring suit from the other side of the border
the compassion must be rendered for America rather than the lawless illegal entrants
if that process is inadequate, then there can be a wall
the president can do all the above immediately. congress must appropriate the funds for a wall
Wrong answer, Doctor.
The right program would literally pay for itself, and solve some other problems in the process.
Kind of like what Trump is proposing.
Ah well. Back to the rice biz Uncle Ben.
snorkel...snorkel...
We are in agreement.
It is not like they all have to be gone the next day— As long as we are keeping many from coming and getting rid of many too— and the number of illegals in the country keeps reducing at a good pace that is much better than what we have now..
Politicians and others tell us it is impossible or too costly to find and deport 11 million illegals (or is it really 40 milluion?)
But many think they can find 100 million gun owners and 300 million rifles and pistols to register.
And some of the really, really wacky ones think they can register and track about 100 billion rounds of ammunition.
“It sounds really cool, you know, ‘Let’s just round them all up and send them back,’” Carson said. “People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system, the costs - forget about it. Plus, where you gonna send them? It’s just a double whammy.”
So, what are we gonna do, Ben, just let them all stay? Let them bring their families? How many do you want to sign up to support?
Whatever Dr. Carson’s motive, his position is bad for this country. He couldn’t possibly be so stupid that he doesn’t realize this. I no longer want him even for VP.
They are here for the money and free stuff.
Cut off the money and free stuff.
They go home.
Very easily, Dr. Carson. You merely stop welfare for non-Americans. The exodus will be comparatively Biblical in its proportions.
A wall is mandatory for one reason. Liberals exist. Any plan not involving a wall will result in exactly our current position. Liberals will be harder pressed to overcome American resistance to removing a 6billion dollar wall once erected.
Everything else you said, I agree with.
Some here don't have much of a clue on EOs. They are enumerated and printed if you want to look them up. There are darn few, like mostly none....
Easier to repeat hear-say I suppose.

Ben won’t be surging so much from now on: he now joins the likes of Yeb and Rubio, at least for those who are paying attention.
So, another one bites the dust ...
it seems SOMEBODY if financially propping up Carson in order to keep the angry voter coalition divided. If carson was not being artificially propped up then his votes would go to trump, Fiorina(ugh), and perhaps cruz.
Carson is too low energy and just a “make me want to stay home” candidate.
Thank you Mr. Carson for helping narrow the field. This is an epic fail. Change the headline from: Surging Ben Carson Knocks Trump Immigration Plan, to: Flailing Ben Carson Knocks Himself Out of the Race.
“. Carson said that he instead favors a plan that would allow undocumented workers the chance to become guest workers.”
In other words let them all stay get on a path to citizenship. Ben Carson is a nice guy with no idea of what he’s talking about half the time. He is not presidential material.
It may be costly, but it is a one-time cost compared to decades of costs.
it was a blatent pander for chamber of commerce money.
Carson has spent over half his money. He is going to end up in NH and SC with no cash.
Damn..... you are correct about the liberals and the future
however, as an engineer that has traversed most of the border from brownsville to yuma with building a wall in mind, I doubt the feasibility of a wall for much of the border length
