President Obama will travel to Fort Meade on Friday to mark the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Obama will meet with military service members at the Maryland base, spokesman Eric Schultz told reporters on Air Force One. The president and first lady Michelle Obama will participate in a moment of silence with White House staff on the South Lawn.
The president looks forward to having conversations with patriotic men and women who work every day to keep America safe and to honor the sacrifices of troops and their families, Schultz said.
Fort Meade is home to several federal agencies, including the National Security Agency, which was embroiled in a controversy over a post-9/11 program allowing bulk collection of Americans phone records.
Located 26 miles north of Washington, Fort Meade employs 52,000 people, making it the third-largest Army installation in the United States.
Is there a massive well stocked fallout shelter there?
When Obama commemorates 9/11, I am certain which side hes paying tribute to.
He’s playing it very safe this year
Close to DC
Highly guarded facility
What do you think
i suppose we should be happy he's not commemorating the anniversary in mecca... a trip which would also have been 100% paid for by taxpayers.
It’s the same feeling I would have if Hillary decided to give a major speech at a large city police station.
