I have never been asked the type of questions Im now fielding from white people and Im not the only one.
Donald Trumps hate speech against Latinos seems to be emboldening white Americans racism. For many, it may be hard to wrap their minds around the fact that that a reality TV star and failed businessman who characterized Mexican immigrants as the most unwanted people, calling them criminals, drug dealers, and rapists, was not only running for president, but is now polling well.
I cant say Im surprised.
A couple of weeks ago, while I was running errands in my neighborhood, a stranger asked me if I was illegal. Around 10 minutes earlier another stranger asked me if I spoke English. Both were white and one of them even called me senorita. Then, late last week, I was standing in line to use the ATM when a white man approached me cautiously, asking if I spoke English. He was lost and said he didnt want to be in a bad area longer than he needed to. He was holding a King Taco cup in his hand. Ive seen white guys like him at the neighborhood taco spot. Stay for the tacos, leave before you have to interact with Mexicans who arent serving you....

Well warn us next time you post a photo like that. I was having breakfast!
I live near the Mexican border in the city of Chula Vista (near San Diego). I encounter Spanish speakers right and left. Some don’t speak English but I never ask them if they do. I simply say I speak English.
I have high standards for posting pictures of the fairer sex. Before I post any such photo I ask myself one question: Would Laz object?
Having lived in LA for 6 years, I know first hand that:
1) The best Mexican food is in little hole in the wall places in neighborhoods like Boyle Heights or Hawthorne and
2) That a lot of folks in those neighborhoods are indeed, non-English speaking persons.
The lady writing this article is doing the typical leftist projection — as she sees everything through a racial lens, she of course transfers that worldview onto anyone that has a different ethnic or racial heritage than her. Its sad really; most of us just want to have a few adult conversations about this and get on with our lives.
Instead, we have the emotional range of a 4 year old on perpetual display as the only answer by the perpetually aggrieved to the central question of economics: “Limited Resources, Unlimited Wants”. Since this emotional child does not have everything she wants in her life and that situation could not POSSIBLY be her fault (its never my fault, ever), then the problem must be something else. Oh, here it is—”I am a _________ and you are a __________. That explains EVERYTHING”. (That last blank can be filled in with any number of words; racist, sexist, homophobe, etc.)
” Yes, Trump is unabashedly American in the way that racism and xenophobia are as American as apple pie. “
And you are apparently quite ANTI-American. FU seniorita, and the donkey you rode in on.
Well Lord knows I could use the reparation. Actually, I’m half Cherokee, and people have always asked me why I didn’t apply for any benefits, including paying for college. I always told them that what happened to my people happened a long time ago, it didn’t happen to my generation and the white people living today didn’t do it, so they are not guilty of anything. All the opportunities in this country are open to everybody if they are willing to work.
Waaaaaaaaaaah!
Thats all that needs to be read in order to move on and consider this a rant, not a sound argument. Trump did not talk hate against Latinos. Nor did he call them those things. He was referring to ILLEGAL immigrants, not all Latinos. This authors argument is invalid.
The young white lady that was shot on Pier 39 in SF was an anomaly. 8 miles south in the Mission District, an illegal Hispanic person committing a crime on another Hispanic person is not an anomaly. The legal Hispanic persons in this nation know who is victimizing them and they don’t like it either...
I usually speak in English and if they don’t speak English they will tell me. Or if it obvious that everyone is speaking Spanish I’ll ask them “hablas engles’” and they know I’m just looking for someone I can talk to. I think these days since it is not PC to speak only English, it could be that people that only speak English don’t know how to go about finding an English speaker in a PC manner.
You can’t ‘Get Over It’, eh?........................
Boo hoo, Tina. Mi corazon bleeds for you.
Tell me again how it’s okay for you to hate whites, but it’s wrong for whites to hate you ...
so she’s white ?
Well the Latinos at my job in Texas, the ones I work to help get on their feet here in Texas, i noticed a lot more organized hatred from them to me. Forget trying to help. The shoe establishment went Latino forced me out. I didn’t quit. Pissed them off
If that’s what the writer means...
Fine. If the hatred is there, let’s see it and deal with it
Called you Senorita? Well, definitely a “faux pas”, as it were.
I would have gone with the more obvious “Mensa, nalga, puta e toda bruja”.
Calling em like I see em since 1963. ..
Generally...no.
Once in my head, I usually have to listen to it NUMEROUS times. Each time just a little louder.
Tina Vasquez: Ive lived in Los Angeles for 29 of my 30 years. As a light-skinned, biracial Latina in one of the most diverse and Mexican-centric cities in the nation, I have never been asked the type of questions Im now fielding from white people.1. Tina...where were you living in your first year? Just curious.
Whether or not the Left is intentionally confusing illegal immigration and all the associated problems with anti-Latin prejudice, or whether they really can't tell the difference comes back to the old, unresolved question: Are Leftists stupid or malicious?
Tina not understanding the irony of HER racism.
