1. Do not plan to visit any U.S. park, recreation area, forest, wildlife management area, or monument. Unless there are a lot of you and it would mean bad press for the civil service.

2. The IRS does not go on paid vacation like the rest of the civil service. You still have to send in your quarterlies.

3. U.S. civilian employees will still get paid even if they do not go into work. The military, not so much.

Each fall for several years, I have traveled to Wyoming and camped on BLM lands which happen to be OUR LAND, NOT THEIRS. The BLM employees work for US. With that said, I have never had a bad experience with the BLM Rangers during those many years, including during the last gubmint shutdown. It’s nice and peaceful being alone.
