Russia tells Washington: talk to us over Syria or risk 'unintended incidents'

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia called on Friday for Washington to restart direct military-to-military cooperation to avert "unintended incidents" near Syria, at a time when U.S. officials say Moscow is building up forces to protect President Bashar al-Assad's government.

The United States is leading a campaign of air strikes against Islamic State fighters in Syrian air space, and a greater Russian presence would raise the prospect of the Cold War superpower foes encountering each other on the battlefield.

Both Moscow and Washington say their enemy is Islamic State. But Russia supports the government of Assad, while the United States says his presence makes the situation worse.

In recent days, U.S. officials have described what they say is a buildup of Russian equipment and manpower.

Just take out the airstrips.

As for unintended incidents, that’s a two way street Vlad.

Should have thought of that before now.

Bloomberg would have more credibility if they mentioned Su-27s and variants

"Just take out the airstrips."

We have no core, essential interests at stake.

Look up the SU-25.

It's Russia's A-10 Ground attack equivalent.

Excellent aircraft.

I can see why Putin is as brazen as he is....look at what Iran did to the muslim in chief....look at what the Senate and the House gave Iran, the day before 9/11 (14th year anniversary of 9/11)

So I can see Putin and Europe to tell America to go to hell....why not, we have a ‘woman sissy’ in the White House, we have ‘gutless sissies’ in the Senate and House...and we have an administration that is chalk full of muslims....

And all those people who voted for the muslim in chief not only once but twice, I hope they can look in the mirror after yesterday.....

Syria borders Israel, our only true friend in the region, and you see no essential interest?

I know what a Su-25 is. A Mig-31 is a little out of place in Syria. Su-27s would be a better fit.

According to the new reports on our ISIS battle, people have been lying about our action in Syria.

We have done very little.

Russia probably knows this by what they have seen.

I would like to be a bug on the wall if Obozo does talk with them.

What do you think those Migs are coming in for?

They’re there to make sure Israel doesn’t take out the Iranian nuclear weapons program.

I think that’s a compelling interest on our part, even if the Imam at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave disagrees.

Syria had never been a problem BEFORE OBAMA

They had a nice quiet little kingdom, you never heard about Assad committing atrocities or torturing opposition...

Then suddenly Obama says he has to go.

Find the deployment Mig-31 weird. It is interceptor designed to shoot down low flying bombers. The Su-25, NATO code name Frog Foot, is dedicated ground attack craft; the Ivan version of the A-10.

obama can do nothing.

Imagine the propaganda if one/two pilots or soldiers were capture by ISIS.

Drones is all obama has.

This move of Putin’s is an incentive for Israel to get moving if they ever want to take out the nuclear facilities.

"Syria borders Israel, our only true friend in the region, and you see no essential interest?"

Russia has never threatened Israel.

And Assad was being overtly non-aggressive.

What would Israel be faced with if ISIS ran Damascus and had Assads weapons?

Assad is less of a risk to Israel than ISIS. He's a somewhat rational actor.
