Memphis Police Officer Timothy Warren and another person were brutally murdered by Alexander Haydel, 24, in July 2011.

In January, 2014, more than two years later (!), and after initially listing four aggravating factors for seeking the death penalty, Shelby County Prosecutor Jennifer Nichols did a flip-flop and allowed Haydel to plead guilty to two charges of first-degree murder in order to avoid the death penalty. Haydel is serving two life sentences without parole [in theory] at the Tennessee Department of Correction.

A month later, Prosecutor Nichols was promoted to Deptuy District Attorney.
