Last weekend was Labor Day Weekend, and ninety-four million Americans are still not in the labor force.
Of course, there are many practical reasons for part of that number, retirement, genuine disability, jobs being held by illegals and people who have looked long and hard and just not been able to find a job and given up trying, to name a few.
I have sympathy for the injured, the infirm, the people who for one physical or mental reason or another are unable to hold down a job, and I believe that they should have assistance. I believe in charity, and I believe in helping a family that has lost its breadwinner and are struggling to keep the family together.
I believe in helping those with chronic illnesses and feel we can never do enough for the needs of those who have served our country in the military.
But when it comes to supporting lazy bums who have found a crack in the system, enabling them to draw a government check and who have no intention of working for a living, I draw the line.

Id give almost anything to have my health back and have a good job again.
Well, Charlie did have an exclusion for those that are “infirm/injured” etc. I wish you could have your health back. And a good job again too.
There are those that are unwilling to work and then there those having some desire yet are unable to work because they have no education, no skills and no self discipline.
Liberalism has given us “a sense of accomplishment” rather than actual accomplishment. Likewise, it emphasizes “self esteem” instead of competency. The marxism advanced by the DemonKKKrat party has resulted in a culture of entitlement instead of a culture of achievement.
IMO - Those on welfare benefits and unemployment compensation are receiving much more than just a “livable” wage - some of them are living the “good” life, multiple cars, vacations, TVs, steak, partying, etc. If they made enough to pay just the rent or mortgage, put basic food on the table, they would go back to work. I don’t know the rules but welfare recipients should not have all benefits cut if a recipient gets a part time job or minimum wage job, especially if he has a family. I was doing a search a few minutes ago about what states pay for unemployment pay and Massachusetts pays more than people around here make in regular mid-income work. They really make out.

“Id give almost anything to have my health back and have a good job again.”
I’m sorry you’re not well. I got Obama’d out of a job with sequestration. I used to think that if you were willing to move you could get a job no matter how bad the economy. Up until I got laid off five years ago, at 56, that was true for me. Because I had lots of internal connections with various companies I interviewed up to 1,500 miles away. They were good interviews and I have an excellent record of accomplishments. But in every case the job went to somebody younger. I gave up and started another career as a landlord.
I miss paychecks and insurance. I miss my coworkers. But I don’t miss the stress of working for men who are optimizing their bonus at the expense of the company and the other employees.
I can solve that problem.
1) Eliminate welfare.
2) Require a man to be married to be the father. No marriage not the father. (no rights, no obligation to pay child support.
Imagine a woman being responsible for the consequences of having children without the means to support one without the safety net.
Imagine how that would strengthen marriage and elevate it’s status.
Imagine how much more productive everyone who is mired in dependency would become.
Grinding up employees for a few thousand of bonus money.
Although I cannot find myself something, I can almost surely find one for you. Drop me a CV/resume sometime.
Or, how about those that are in this country with no legal status. You know, coming here the “right” way. Do like Australia, if you won’t be a benefit to the country and come with at least a years worth of support for yourself, you don’t get in. Well, legally anyway. Sovereign nations DID mean something and europe was much better off with actual borders, currencies and their own identities. At least to my way of thinking.

That is an awesome offer. Many thanks. My last job was running a fifty million dollar Navy project.
I started buying distressed properties and renting them out. I now have four. I turned it into a full time job. I need about six more and I will have sufficient income to not worry about a job. I’d much rather do that than anything else. I used to have untreatable hypertension. When I made the decision, I mean really knew I’d made the decision, to pursue the rental property over the high stress job, a few minutes later I staggered to my knees. My blood pressure had dropped to 95/55 or so. It has remained low since. I dropped all hypertension meds as I no longer need them.
Somebody said to me, “there’s a reason for everything.” I think that’s a biblical reference, though which one escapes me. I think I’m happier working for myself than I ever was working for the military industrial establishment.
those here illegally should get nothing but a boot in he butt
Those who pay no taxes should not vote!
In this day and age ...having no education is a choice. Having no skills....is a choice. Having no self-discipline... is a choice. It's called "being lazy".
I'm guessing that this is not exactly what you meant to say....
You are right on target.
I understand your point but self discipline is a trained habit. Some children grow up having received little to no training. Once adults, changing the dysfunctional conditions of their formative years is not something that happens over night.
As a child raised in a very dysfunctional home, I can attest that a person can acquire self-discipline to get ahead in life...if one desires it. It's really a choice. I'm not trying to be hard...just deflecting age-old excuses for laziness.
