Billionaire Donald Trump leads the crowded 2016 Republican presidential field in California, according to a poll released Sunday morning.
The USC Dornsife/LA Times Poll found that 24 percent of Republicans said they would support Trump. Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson is in second place with 18 percent.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) each received 6 percent support.
Pollsters found that Carson would beat Trump in a head-to-head matchup, however, 43 percent to 32 percent.
"More than half of the Republican primary voters who have chosen a candidate are supporting someone who has never held elected office," Dan Schnur, director of the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Poll and director of the Unruh Institute of Politics of USC, said.
"Sheer anger toward Washington is handily defeating ideology in the Republican primary," he added.

With Carson’s views on ‘amnesty’ and his statement from Ferguson about the Michael Brown shooting . . I don’t understand his appeal to true Conservatives.

It may be merely a matter of timing. These more egregious statements by Carson were made toward the end of the week, just about the time this poll was winding up.
Also, you can get the poll results you want by asking the “right” people. The people who get their news from the mainslimes know nothing of these latest gaffes. IMHO.

Carson remains a mystery to most FReepers. I don't get it either. He does present the image of an intelligent and thoughtful outsider to most people however, so I get that. There must be some alternate universe bleeding into this one in which all the polling numbers of semi-conservative people who love amnesty for illegals are coming.
What is clear is that the establishment is on the ropes. Good. It needs to go down. I'm glad Cruz is beginning to overtake exclamation point.
"!"is a maggot.

The Ferguson statement is relatively new and has not bubbled to the surface yet. Once it does and the blowback is felt, he’ll either walk it back, or, it may be what differentiates himself from others....and not in a good way. He may be trying to pick up some of the BLM votes.

I’ll say again. I think Carson is the “parking lot” for Trump votes that aren’t quite ready for whatever reason to go with him. Maybe they want to hear more, maybe they are put off by his bombast. Carson is “nice.” He’s clearly successful, and, don’t kid yourself, even now MILLIONS of white American still feel the need to “prove” they aren’t racist by voting for a black man.

Carson’s Iowa backers seem to be mostly Evangelicals, who like his spiritual fervor in the same way they liked Catholic Santorum’s in the last cycle and Huckabee’s before that.
Halting illegal immigration and restoration of law and order seem not their highest priorities, and neither is promotion of free-market economics.

Wait, what?
Carly is ‘surging’ ... why isn’t she making noise in her home state?
Oh, that’s right. Silly me. Her surge was from 1% to 3%.

I think that Carson’s appeal is mainly the casual evangelical vote.
He has appeared on the Hour of Power TV church several times.
So I think it is sort of soft evangelical name recognition.

Ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Texas incumbent US Sen. Ted Cruz are collapsing..... each received 6% support. Trump has ignited America's visceral contempt for politicians. It is now considered political suicide for a candidate to even allude to past political activities.
Which makes it understandable why Ted Cruz never mentions his Washington resume as a credential----he has yet to highlight even one of the many Senate committees he serves on. That's really wise.....b/c voters would view him as a hopeless political hack.
SEN CRUZ's CURRENT COMMITTEES (SOURCE: Cruz web site):
Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities
Subcommittee on Seapower
Subcommittee on Strategic Forces
Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation
Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, Chairman
Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security
Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet
Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security
Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard
Committee on the Judiciary
Subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts, Chairman
Subcommittee on The Constitution
Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest
Joint Economic Committee
Committee on Rules & Administration

Simple. He has the support of moderates that like to call themselves conservatives. They are however, at best, moderates.
What you see is media, yes even ‘ours’ participating in the democrat practice of redefinition. Orwell style. Lest we forger, many tried to call Mitt Romney a conservative with a record that mirrored Obamas nearly to the letter.
