see video posted in the post above....
The Valley Fire and Butte Fire are brutal.
The Oakland Firestorm in 1991 destroyed 2,800 homes and cost $1.5 billion dollars. Since I lived in the Rockridge district near the Ashby, Berkeley BART station, I helped out.
Bill Wattenberg was livid and angry on KGO radio that night on October 19 and blamed the Sierra Club and other fake “green” groups for causing the Firestorm. Why? Because the Sierra Club convinced the local governments to outlaw brush clearing and the removal of dead trees.
Then about thirty local callers cried on the radio and affirmed what Bill said about not being allowed to clear the dead wood.
My great grandfather was the first white person born in Kansas in 1858 and you are correct. Kansas had its own banks, mills and geniuses who learned how to prevent the spread of wild fires over the bluffs: create wide dirt roads to act as blockers of roaming fires.
California, the Golden State, once created the Space Shuttle. Now it is creating a third world where my car get vandalized regularly.
The Valley Fire is destroying beautiful hills and the Butte fire is destroying local towns. So sad how ethical people could have prevented so much destruction and cost.
It’s not rude! It is just the way California is.
Leftists think that human intervention in nature is evil. This is nature, it’s what it does. It’s not evil or good, it just is.
I’m convinced these fires are being set on purpose. They appear to be ‘spot’ fires. That means that someone was walking along and just starting fires here and there. This is not a fire which starts in just one spot.
The fact that a Muslim terrorist training camp exists just north of San Francisco .. makes me wonder how involved they are. I’ve seen a new map of terrorist groups in USA, and they are literally all over the place.
But, the lack of rain, along with the CA govt plan to take away so much of our water and put it in the ocean .. made CA a prime target.
All well and good.
Was born, raised, lived there many years and and experienced first hand the losses and some deaths from these type conflagrations.
No hand wringing on my part, just compassion for our fellow man in spite of the enviro-nazis.
Sorry to hear of a possible fatality, hopefully the report was bogus. Haven’t been able to locate an article about it this morning.
Thanks for the video link.
Arson is definitely a possibility.
Depending on the terrain and winds it’s also common for fires to spot long distances from the main fire when fuel moisture and humidity is low.
I am aware that the wind can be a very large contributor to spreading a fire.
It’s just interesting to me that the “spot” fire method is not being talked about .. but maybe that’s on purpose.
1 killed and 13,000 displaced by raging Valley fire in Northern California
I live in the Mother Lode where the Butte Fire is at. We finally got PGE back on after a week of being down. Our congressman is Tom McClintock so more than half of us are not “tree huggers”. There is a lot of pine trees, oak trees and manzanita here but homes are required to be a safe distance from them. There was a least 2 deaths here due to the fire and a lot of homes have been burnt down. Our firefighters have been heroes. The fire is still going but people are being let back into their homes or what’s left of them. I thank God my home is still here but praying for the ones who have lost theirs.
Thank you for a first hand report.
So sorry to hear of the deaths and the destruction of not only homes but the landscape, you and the others live in a truly beautiful area.
Happy to hear your home survived the conflagration.
