FreedomWorks’ Matt Kibbe appeared on Glenn Beck’s radio show yesterday to talk about the Republican nomination process. He explained that there are, in his eyes, only four viable candidates. He explained:
“I’ve narrowed my field down. I’ve taken a long look at Scott Walker. And I think the last time I was on the show, I said Scott Walker would be on my short list. He is not impressing me with a spine of steel more recently. And I think we should look at that. But I think the four most viable candidates for better or worse are people we helped put there. Scott Walker would be one of them. Scott Walker wouldn’t exist without Tea Party support in his state.”
He added that, “for better or worse,” Walker definitely is one of the four. The other three are: Ted Cruz and Rand Paul (Glenn’s favorites) and, finally, Marco Rubio.
Looks like FW’s “top four” picks have fizzled out. Cruz is their last man standing?
There was one chance in a million to stop Iran from getting the billions of dollars that the Obama admin wanted to give them. Ted Cruz was the only person on either side of the aisle or in the punditry that had a viable plan to stop it.
That plan involved having the Obama admin say that the restrictions were to remain until the Congress viewed ALL of the specifics of the deal and voted it up or down. Then without disapproval Obama could do what he wanted.
98 of the Senators approved the Corker bill.
As Cruz said, they were never given the whole agreement so they shouldn’t have voted on it. He said they should not have voted on it and let the President illegally release the funds on his own but the banks would be warned that if they did so, it would surely be deemed illegal in the future seeing as how they did not follow the legally prescribed process laid out in the Corker bill.
Without the Corker bill, the President could have simply said “This is an executive action not a treaty.” We would have had no recourse other than the courts. The banks could have felt secure in releasing the money since it was a complicated judgement to know if it was illegal or not.
With the Corker bill, if Boehner and McConnel would have held the line, it would have been very risky for the banks to give back the money.
It was our only shot but unfortunately it relied on two eunuchs to carry it out.
Whatever you want to knock Cruz over, you can try your best. But trying to pin Iran on him is really stupid and desperate.
Then again, since you are supporting a guy who speaks in 2 second sound bytes, “You’re stupid”, “You’re ugly”, “We need to win”, “You’re a loser”, “I’m a winner”, “I’m yuge”, etc... you probably don’t understand nuanced arguments and strategy.
Hopefully it will translate into some attention for Cruz.
All I know with certainty is that we are being worked over AGAIN, because we are fodder for splintering.
The GOP manufactures the splintering among us rubes, and without fail runs their guy through the crease, whether it be Jeb or Kasich (who incidentally appears to have swallowed a canary). Something is probably up.
I know with certainty is that we have a candidate who is shooting up the place, dis-assembling the GOP and is RICH ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN THE ASSAULT!
Frankly, I wish I were wrong, but I’m not convinced we will ever see another social conservative as president again, not one who leads with his faith.
Everything is up to us. It’s about to be a deadly bumpy ride.
Can we stick together?
Probably for the same reason “24” and “Walking Dead” are some of the hottest topics on FR. If you’re immersed in the culture, your philosophical framework is entertainment. Trump is entertaining, he’s saying some of the right things, and he’s a blank canvas on some other things.
What’s frustrating is the pre-Trumpgasm mantra was just what you’re longing for. “We’d better unite around the most conservative candidate.” Alas, Trump calls Bush stupid, he gets a lot of press, fed up Americans flock to him, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and Savage see the ratings potential, and here he is with what seems insurmountable popularity among conservatives who should know better. Limbaugh has all but said he’s riding this Trump wave until it’s convenient to dump Trump, but I remember Limbaugh’s late endorsement of Fred Thompson (just before he dropped out of the race).
About the only encouragement I get out this is 1). God is in control. 2) Cruz, who is a lot smarter than me, hasn’t said anything about it. He keeps plugging away, building a huge grass-roots campaign.
I can’t see any benefit of having Trump over Bush or Kasich. We need a conservative president.
Wouldn’t someone have to at least say they’re conservative to be invited? Has Trump every said that?
Great analysis. It really was bold of Cruz, and put him in a bad spot. It would have been easy for him to hold the line and be one of 2 senators to vote against it, but he really wanted to stop the deal.

In this climate can we separate our needs from the reality all around us?
I don’t mind supporting a Christian conservative, if Trump doesn’t clear the field, but do I believe they will win the presidency? Emphatically, NO.
I can support a Christian moderate like Trump, because I am a single issue voter on abortion first and foremost, and from that point onward, I am for blowing up the GOP and their strangle hold operation to splinter up conservatives from one another in the primary.
I am not going to bite. I didn’t bite in 2008 with McCain, I didn’t bite in 2012 with Romney, and now I have Trump.
Trump has the money to withstand the coming assault.
Trump has a chance to win the presidency. Cruz will never win the presidency. The GOP won’t allow it. And, he doesn’t have the money, unless he bows to Wall Street. Wake up!
Rush has been doing an excellent job, this morning, of explaining why Trump is ahead....and, with blacks, as well.
He said one thing that people - from BOTH sides of the aisle - like about him, is that his fingerprints are NO WHERE on this mess we have, today.
