Soldiers from Burkina Faso's powerful presidential guard interrupted a cabinet meeting on Wednesday and detained the ministers, the prime minister and interim President Michel Kafando, military sources said.

The move came two days after a commission charged with drafting reforms for Burkina Faso's transitional government proposed dismantling the elite unit. The presidential guard, known as the RSP, was a key pillar of President Blaise Compaore's regime before he was toppled by demonstrations in October after 27 years in power.

"It is the whole of the government, including the prime minister and the president, taken by a group of soldiers from the presidential guard," said one senior military source. "They have not asked for anything for the time being."

Journalists from state television, who had gone to film the cabinet meeting, confirmed that the cabinet had been detained by soldiers.

We live in interesting times. Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t think ‘small stuff’ is going to be reported on anytime soon. So much going on all over the damn world.

Must have had a rogue president and cabinet? Haven’t heard of what was going on over there.

No, he isn’t from there. He just has a lot of experience and time in the aircraft and had the right connections in the field when the job came up. Not many American pilots are willing to live and work in Africa, and with the way the industry is now, he’s happy to have a job.

He makes a decent amount and yes, in USD. He only has a few years left till mandatory retirement so it’s our retirement plan and money.

As for what’s going on in Burkina Faso, he gets most of his news from the internet, too, so I don’t have any inside information.
