Trump wasn’t a democrat. He has been conservative his whole life.

Just my view, that’s all

Cruz is like a national treasure. I see him as part of an answer to our prayers He will not be elected. His place is somewhere close to the presidency. But the liv s will not vote for him. We are stuck with people who will not be informed but they’ll vote anyway. They’re not going to vote for Cruz

It’s jeb or Hillary or jeb ushering Hillary in. That’s what the powers that be are presenting. And they have taken control. The clintons and bushes and their supporters and donors have seen to that

Your choices are going to be Hillary v Hillary (that’s what jeb brings) or Hillary v trump

You can pretend it’s different as long as you like.

Whoever gets the GOP nomination are going to get hit with what trump is getting hit with now and they will not withstand it. Because they will be working for donors who want Hillary in.

Fox is working for a bush nomination. Perino and her puppy, gutfeld, kelly and Baer will be so confused when after the nomination they’re told to bail on him and support Hillary

That’s what you have.

You think fiorinas getting in? Cruz? Rubio?

Waste of time

Never

And Hillary will not ever debate. She will never have responsibility for anything she’s done. Nope.

Trump was referring to trade deals, which Republicans absolutely adore, as shown by the TPA vote.

I know that, when it comes to die hard Trump supporters, nothing I or anyone else says is going to matter.

My comments about him are mostly directed to those who haven’t made up their mind.

I think Trump supporters are mostly just taking a leap of faith with him without really looking at his record of flip flopping - even as recently as 2012 on immigration (which is supposed to be his signature issue).

I think Trump is a populist protectionist with some nationalism and conservatism (when it’s expedient for him) mixed in, but he isn’t actually a conservative. Nor is he in any way grounded in conservative ideology. Without that grounding, there is no real way to trust his judgment on almost any issue from administrative regulations to court appointments (he thinks his sister would be a phenomenal nominee to the SCOTUS and she is ardently pro-choice).

I also think there is a cult of personality going on here from a well trained realityTV host who knows how beguile an audience.

I’m not willing to fall for it. It is not worth it to me to just blow up the “establishment” and see what happens. It’s like a revolution, everyone wants one but no one really knows the outcome. It’s a matter of being careful what you wish for. If I believed Trump were a real conservative, that would be different - but then if he were a real dyed-in-the-wool conservative I doubt the media, academia and the entertainment establishment would have given him a pass all these years. Right now Trump takes flak, but he is still a novelty to the left - a person that at least half of them hope gets the nomination cause they think he’d be easy to beat.

I do understand the feeling of deju-vu, the inevitability thing. The “establishment” wanted McCain and low and behold that is who we got, same for Romney, and now many people on the right feel that a deep loathing that the same thing will happen with Jeb unless he is stopped. Part of me agrees, though Reagan did break the mold in 1980 and McGovern did the same for the Democrats in 1972. We are not condemned to the media’s outcome, though I know it feels that way.

I’m just not willing to take a flier on Trump and hope for the best. He simply isn’t a conservative. He may have good intentions, but too many of his statements and previous positions tell me he is just not a real conservative and therefore I just can’t trust what his solutions would be for “taking our country back”.

I would say this though. I am not sitting out. I am not going to take my ball and go home if my preferred candidate doesn’t win the nomination. If Trump does win, I will be all in for Trump. The risk/reward on Trump versus any Democrat makes that an easy decision. Whoever the GOP nominee is, I am going to support that person because yes, in a general election it really is a choice between the lesser of two evils most of the time.

I am no die hard trump supporter

No no

I am looking at our country and this election

Clintons waged a clash of the Titans in 2000 expecting to get al gore in there providing them access. Gore was a doofus and still almost got in.

It’s like that now only worse. There is so much power behind the scenes that we don’t see

What we can see is that none of them represent us. None that can get elected none that the media who have SO much control are going to allow in

Trump. Listen to what I am saying I always say this too. Trump may get in there and become a maniac dictator for all we know about him. I am not a die hard trump fan

I’m not

But we have Hillary v bush which is Hillary. Or we have Hillary v trump. That’s it

If you see a different scenario. Share it with us

Okay, well first I offer my apologies for making that assumption.

Second, it still sounds like you assume the inevitability that I mentioned. I just don't.

The "powers that be" didn't want Reagan, but he had a long track record of conservatism and just about anyone right of center knew what they were going to get with him. They were not just rolling the dice because they'd given up trying to get a nominee that actually represented them (at least more than the establishment types).

Clintons waged a clash of the Titans in 2000 expecting to get al gore in there providing them access. Gore was a doofus and still almost got in.

By all measures Gore should have won. The economy still appeared to be strong and Clinton, despite impeachment, was riding high in the polls. Many would argue that Gore distancing himself from Clinton is what cost him the election. Yes, we think Gore is a doofus, but the people of Tennessee elected him and his father senator - and while not as popular as Clinton, Gore should have been in a good position to win (he did actually win the popular vote afterall).

But we have Hillary v bush which is Hillary. Or we have Hillary v trump. That’s it

I just don't make such assumptions. Conventional wisdom is often quite wrong. Remember Hannity and others in 2008 assumed Hillary would be the candidate and spent tons of air time going after her. What we got instead was arguable far worse.

Are we even sure Hillary can beat Sanders at this point? Really sure? I am not. I expect Biden to get in the race. If not him, some other candidate that smells blood. The Democrat candidate may not fall into place the way "the powers that be" expected it to.

Jeb is not a good national candidate. He will get better over time, but his fundamental flaws remain. Mostly, people on the right know what we are going to get with Bush's, and I don't think they want another. I think whatever the power brokers assumed may have been wrong from the start in this case.

I don't rule out the idea that Cruz, Walker, Rubio or someone else can win. Right now Trump has a large lead, but I think there is a campaign between the other candidates beneath the surface that assumes when it really comes down to it, Trump will not be regarded as a serious, viable choice. I don't know who will emerge, I hope it is Cruz, but I don't think a Hillary versus Jeb race is a fait accompli. I think voters on both sides are not particularly in the mood for the candidates their insiders want.

Except Trump. He’s different, and he’s got the RNC/DNC/GOPe/CoC/OldMedia wetting their collective britches. And it’s not because he’s some closet commie. If he was they’d adore him. They don’t.

You don’t compute rope-a-dope..
Wool pulled over your eyes quite easily..
Actually BRILLIANT of him.. i.e. THEM..
totally caught YOU flatfooted..

After he upsets that applecart, we can start looking for someone better, but if we say no thanks to Trump the GOPe will figure out ways to make sure that no more challenges like his are ever mounted.

Really.. ALL of the Above were trashing Ted Cruz before Trump had his JUDAS moment and became a republican yet again..
to date he is still republican THIS WEEK.. kind of..

Trump here or gone they will still despise Cruz.. as BEFORE..
Cruz don’t change.. don’t need to change.. won’t change..
Trump got on the Cruz bandwagon, Cruz did not get on the Trump bandwagon...

Cruz OWNS THE WAGON.. with barely Mike Lee to Help him..
True Trump is a strong MULE.. but Cruz owns the wagon..
And is driving his wagon toward GUTTING the federal givernment..

Trump supporters think he will too.. BUT alas he WON’T..
BIG GIVERNMENT Trump has no problem with.. he likes to make BIG DEALS.. for BIG money with BIG givernments..
Thats what gets him OFF..

Cruz wants to make federal givernment a VASSAL OF STATES..
Trump dont care who is in charge(Feds or States) as long as they make good deals according to him..

SOme freepers seem to like BIG GIVERNMENT AS WELL..

Trumps father/mother... ALL this siblings, ALL his children almost all of his close friends are flaming ultra-democrat liberals..

NOT one is remotely close to being a conservative..
If he CANNOT convince EVEN ONE of them to LEAN conservative..
HE ISN’T TRYING..

WHY isn’t he trying?.. could it be they know what he secretly IS?.. What the facts say he is?..

Trump sounds like he has since 1988. Jeez, well. I went through a liberal period from around 88-94, and learn my lesson. Trump knew it then and knows it now. The Freaking truth.

Apropos of nothing, I have to say that from a woman’s point of view, young Trump sure was a handsome man. He’s still easy on the eye, especially when he smiles (not enough I say), but when young he was a heartthrob.
