More liberal destruction. This is how libs fix everything — just keep taking MORE MONEY from the citizens.

You can bet that every other liberal city will be soon behind Chicago.

I like ExpatShield for such things.
It provides a UK IP address and it's free.

“Let’s tax all foreigners living abroad.”

A line from Monty Python’s Flying Circus, 1969.

It was deemed a joke at the time.

Michigan has (had) the same tax law. Virtually everyone blew it off (like the former governor liked blowing things away), that is until you got a tax bill in the mail for those purchases.

Chicago (& Illinois) is in deep hock to its Unions and their pension plans.

And I believe that (unlike the case of Detroit) IL courts have ruled that the pension benefits are contractual guarantees and cannot be changed.

Wow, this is really as close to an “intolerable act”.
I find it odd. The “reason and justification” used for amusement taxes and other taxes on gatherings, is that they require emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) and that they also require extra efforts to regulate parking, pick up trash and such.
This is just a rip off with no link, not even a far fetched one, to any legitimate municipal service provided.
I think it’s time folks took these public officials to the woodshed.
But on the other hand, they elected them, keep them in office and generally seem to approve of it all.
Best wishes to all.

New York State has the same law, only they are very aggressive about enforcing it.

When Eliot Spitzer was Governor they built a massive data mining operation to sift credit card and banking records to identify things New Yorkers were buying in other states and to try and collect tax on them. The IT guys who worked on it openly referred to the project as “Eliot Spitzer’s Wet Dream”.
