Admin Mod note: Title changed at source to Cruz: Carson's stance on Muslim presidents unconstitutional

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is criticizing GOP rival Ben Carson for saying that a Muslim should not be president of the United States.

At a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday evening, Cruz said religious convictions should have no bearing on one’s fitness for the Oval Office.

“You know, the Constitution specifies there shall be no religious test for public office and I am constitutionalist,” he said, according to The Des Moines Register.

“My view, listen. The president’s faith is between him and God,” the 2016 Republican White House hopeful added of President Obama. “What I’m going to focus on is his public policy record.”

But nobody has told you to do that.

The subject in the thread is not God’s laws.

The thread is about Media lies, and the people that choose to believe them.

I did not write the article, ergo, I did not create a strawman. I have absolutely no problem with the "duty, privilege, and interest" (John Jay's words) of preferring Christians for our leadership. The article intimates Carson feels the same and Cruz feels otherwise; as such I disagree strongly with Cruz. I see no strawman; certainly none that I created. Are you certain you are using the term correctly? In the interest of full disclosure, I am not picking a fight with Cruz or his supporters. In fact, of the candidates running he is by far the nearest match and most capable of representing me. We don't have to agree 100% and I feel at leisure to note the differences between us. If the author of the article has misrepresented Cruz's position, I look forward to reading the correction.

This is an example of reading the hit(I mean head)line without reading the actual words.

In actuality, Cruz IS correct but does not dis' Carson.

There IS no religious litmus test to be President (House, Senate or Supreme Court Judge, as well.)

There is also no reason to put a Muslim, or any other non Judeo-Christian in those offices as well, in my opinion!

Exactly and Cruz only stated what the Constitution says. Cruz didn’t attack Carson and even though I wish others would support Carson on this issue, it was not Cruz job to defend him.

I feel like all you have to do is read the entire article. The text of the article does nothing to support the claim of the headline.

As Cruz supporter you’ve done a real disservice for your candidate. If you think you attract others to support your candidate then think again.

You’re a turnoff. You could actually cost your candidate votes.

Carson said Sunday in response to an interview question that "I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that."

..though he believes it is legal and Constitutional, as an ideological danger and security threat, Ted Cruz believes the same way--I would stake my life on it..

The title lies. He does not rebuke Carson at all.

Read the article. There is manipulation in the title. Cruz does not rebuke Carson. He just says that there is to be no religious test, which I am sure Carson with that. It is not about a religious test. it is about an ability to defend the constitution in its original intent.

Issuing timely warnings eh?

We should get together this Friday and fry up some fish in honor of Dagon. How's that for a plan, good buddy?

You have chosen your ways; that is for you to correct.

Your constant deception WRT my positions on RF threads is what I warned those that needed to know about.

We’re all appointed to speak the truth here.

I do not lie. I used to give you the benefit of doubt, but there is no longer any doubt.

Here on this thread, you asked who I support, and when I responded you acted as though you had not.

Games.

Would a Muslim president be sworn into office using the Bible or the Koran?

Not in any quote at any point in the article. The media's just trying to get us fightin' each other.

During this campaign for every one time another candidate said the name of the great God and our savior Jesus Christ, Cruz has said twenty times in every type of venue unashamedly without reservation and never to gain points, in fact he loses many when he speaks so boldly of Jesus Christ.

“If Cruz is truly a Christian” indeed your whole post is crap, You no not whereof you speak, and twist the scriptures to fulfill some foolish agenda, making false accusations, God knows about such, shame on you!

You are right! I was thinking the same thing!

It's the only thing that makes sense. Especially after seeing the Night of Long Knives going after Trump

Cruz’s statement and Carson’s statements are not incompatible.

No, that lie is a strawman, through and through.

Why not just read what he really said?
