MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Warning the GOP's presidential race has become too nasty, Scott Walker suspended his 2016 campaign on Monday and called on some of his Republican rivals to do the same, citing an urgent need to "clear the field" to help defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately," Walker said in a Madison press conference.

He was far from clueless. He wanted it. He got caught spinning it. But make no mistake, He is and was USCOC bought and paid for.

You don’t have to agree. But that does not change history.

Then you didn’t hear the entire speech. He definitely dissed Trump.

“I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same, so that the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive, conservative alternative to the current front runner,” Walker went on to say

And he started off my favorite next to Cruz.

Now I’m glad he’s gone.

Jealous little jerk.

If he acted boldly like Trump, instead of believing his own hype, he would not be going home.

Senator Cruz is class personified! Walker...not so much.

Wow, I liked him as a third choice, now he’s dead to me. A TRUE RINO to his bitter loser-ass core!

I’m not even sure that some of those people weren’t projecting but rather purposely trying to cover up for Walker, because they are GOPE too.

I’m not sure that all are even ready to turn their backs on the GOPE. It seems to me that that there are still some who want to continue on with the same farce that has gotten us nowhere but total defeat.

I gave him $200 and had his sticker on my vehicle. Now I’m proudly wearing a Trump hat and my vehicle’s decorated with a Trupm sticker, right over “Impeach Obama!” Walter’s departure was really classless.

Has he taken Trump’s immigration position 3 months ago he could just about have the nomination wrapped up by now. Instead, he’s just another one of the rest with Mexican fever.

“I just don't read “clear the field” meaning get after Trump.”

From the article:

“I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same so the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive conservative alternative to the current front-runner,” Walker continued. “This is fundamentally important to the future of the party and more importantly to the future of our country.”

The current front runner is Trump. Walker wants a “positive conservative alternative” to Trump meaning Trump is deficient.

I agree that the MSM exaggerate but I wish Walker had shown more class.

Rather sad since Walker seemed more classy and Trump was very complimentary on his exit. It make no sense to do that. Walker does have a great future if he continues in the fashion he did as governor and not bitterly attacking Trump who is obvious a favorite of many Americans.

Thanks, just saw the same thing, and was going to post a remark to that effect. That statement is personal against Trump, although a charitable take (plausible deniability) is that all of them, including the frontrunner, have positive conservative messages. I know, that’s a massive heap of charitability, and not really a credible take.

Get a life, I was having some fun with Walker being a dick in his stupid speech. For 80% of the people on this site, including me, Trump is conservative enough because he has immigration right.

But if you must, I agree, Trump overall is a middle-of-the-road populist - but he has obviously picked some issues that resonate with Republicans.
