Nassau County DA’s office forbids prosecutors from having handguns (even at home)

The Nassau County District Attorney’s office bars prosecutors from having a handgun, even at home:

[A]ssistant district attorneys are not permitted to apply for a handgun permit nor own or possess a handgun while employed by the Nassau County District Attorney. Any exception to this policy must be in writing and approved by the District Attorney.

I asked the office about the reasons for the policy, and its answer was:

Our practice of asking prosecutors to not possess handguns is to ensure the safety and comfort of staff, victims, and witnesses, and is consistent with other district attorney’s offices in the New York City metropolitan area.

A pretty good example of just how anti-gun some government organizations are, it seems to me. It’s true that the government acting as employer has broader powers to restrict employee behavior — even off-duty exercise of constitutional rights — than the government generally has with regard to other citizens. Still, these powers are not unlimited and require a substantial justification.

That is New York intelligence for you.

Have people prosecute criminals, but do not allow these very people the chance to defend themselves in their own home.

The only people who take this positions are beta male pajama boys.

I live in Nassau County, FLORIDA. That would NEVER be an issue here thank God.

Meanwhile, is not Nassau County under the aegis of that AH Congressman Peter King? If so, it figures.

Our practice of asking prosecutors to not possess handguns

Doesn't sound like "asking" to me. It sounds like unconstitutionally infringing on their RKBA.

So the guys responsible for putting away the bad guys cant defend themselves and their family in their own homes. Insanity, I think even in ultra Liberal NY whomever suggested this should and hopefully by law can be recalled.

Maybe bailiffs and others in the courtroom should be disarmed too?

BTW, the part of not having a gun at home or while employed seems to be a clear winnable violation of their 2A rights that SCOTUS has ruled everybody has.

Fore the safety and comfort of suspects and convicts more likely.
I would have thought victims and witnesses would be comforted by more firepower on their own side.

Perhaps next they can mandate that the homeowner needs to leave their keys under the mat when they leave for work so their property can be redistributed.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

ISIS can have NYC as far as I am concerned.

Open season on Nassau County Assistant DA’s. I’m sure the DA has armed guards, 24/7 at his work and home. He’s willing to sacrifice the ADA’s who actually do the trial prep while he/they take all the glory.

My answer, if I were an ADA, give me the damned permit to carry or I quit. My family is worth more than working for a liberal jerk like you, and then go to the press if fired.

New York is so anti-smoking that they’ll send groups of undercover policemen onto the streets to strangle black men to death for illicitly selling untaxed ‘loose cigarettes’, then later they’ll call for “national dialogue” because their allegedly racist police officers are unjustifiably murdering black men.

So why should we be surprised when they prohibit their own assistant district attorneys from being able to protect themselves from the criminals they’re trying to send to jail? You think they’re going to let you keep a gun at home just because you’re a badge-carrying law enforcement officer in a city that prohibits servings of soft drinks exceeding 16 ounces?

New York State may be filled with decent people for all I know, but New York City really isn’t part of the United States of America. Their politicians would probably die of culture shock if they were to step one foot into my home state Nevada. They’d take one look at the Amargosa Valley 24-hour liquor store/gun shop/brothel/fireworks stand/medical marijuana dispensary and collapse into a quivering blubbering pile of that sticky goo that you find on the floor of NYC cabs.

I will go a step further and state real gun reform should mean no guns for DC elite politicians, any demrat that supports gun theft from U.S. Citizens, Hollywood celebrities, judges, and all of their bodyguards.

I doubt there would be enough evidence to convict the Nassau County DA if he were accused of being smart!
