Trump Campaign Manager: President Trump Would Admit Zero Syrian Refugees
BuzzFeed News ^ | September 22, 2015 | Ilan Ben-Meir, News reporter

“It is time — and Mr. Trump has said this, time and time again — to put Americans first.”

Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Tuesday that the United States “should take in zero” Syrian refugees.

“This is very simple, the bottom line is we should take in zero,” Lewandowski said when asked by radio host John Fredericks what a President Trump would do about the refugee crisis.

“And the Untied States, to be clear, has a process for bringing refugees into the country, and an individual must qualify as a refugee to begin that process, is how it works. Individuals caught in a civil war do not necessarily qualify as refugees,” Lewandowski continued

“If Mr. Trump were the president of the United States we would not be bringing refugees into the country under this criteria,” Lewandowski said.

In past interviews, Trump has not completely ruled out taking in refugees from Syria.

On September 8th, Trump told Bill O’Reilly: “I hate the concept of it, but on a humanitarian basis, you have to” accept some refugees.

On September 15th, Trump told Morning Joe that “the answer is possibly yes” to accepting refugees, even though “we have so many problems of our own.”

“There’s only so much we can do — we have to fix our own country,” he explained. “Now, Europe is handling it, Germany has been very generous so far, which is very surprising to me, to be honest with you.”

“But it’s a huge problem, and we should help as much as possible, but we do have to fix our own country,” Trump concluded.

On Tuesday, Lewandowski took this line of argument a step further, arguing that “it is time — and Mr. Trump has said this, time and time again — to put Americans first.”

“While I understand our position in the global economy, and how important the United States is in world public affairs, it is time to look at the people who are in our country first who are struggling — the middle class, the bottom class of people who can’t survive — and give them opportunities,” said Lewandowski. “And this is exactly what the issue is, when it comes to not just bringing in refugees, but illegal immigrants.

“It is time to build a wall, it is time to make sure our borders are secure, it is time to make sure that the people who are at the lowest economic status in this country, their jobs are not being taken away from illegal immigrants who are coming to this country illegally,” he continued. “Why don’t we let those people — give them the opportunity to do the jobs, give them the opportunity to have a leg up, give them the opportunity to make their lives better, before we worry about the people in other parts of the world who aren’t U.S. citizens to begin with?”

You’re exaggerating. In the first comment, Trump gave the humanitarian line, but then raised the specter of terrorists being brought in, and also stated that Europe was handling it and that America really has its own problems to deal with.

The second comment only had “possibility.” But again reiterated that America should come first and that we have our own problems.

The third comment rules it out completely, essentially saying America comes first.

Doesn’t seem like they “don’t come close to his current position.”

Our home, our beloved America has become a massive “refugee” camp. I don’t know where the America-hating Kenyan get his authority to this to our country. What a sleaze.

I really don’t have a problem with this. Someone check Glenn Beck’s pulse tomorrow. He’ll be hyperventilating.

He could change his mind as he receives more information and evidence of who exactly these refugees are. We know more than a couple of weeks ago. 2 weeks ago it was a foreign journalist tripping a refugee. Now we know said refugee is foreign fighter.

it’s becoming more and more clear that most of these so-called refugees are mostly men and not from Syria. When it initially began happening it was heavily promoted they were mostly refugees. He has assessed the situation, and upon learning more, adjusted his position.

Fine with me.

Your claim is that his position today is completely different. It seems the first two statements have two things in common: the theme of "America first, not really our problem" and uncertainty on what to do with refugees. It seems more like he's finally made up his mind.

By the way, who is your candidate and how do you feel about them being mushes on illegal aliens and more than likely having taken the opposite opinion than Trump on refugees?

You know everyone wants to hold him to everything he says or has ever said word for word. I’m grateful he’s a candidate who considers and evolves.

And his basic premise hasn’t shifted a centimeter, that Americans come first, that we’re a country of laws. As he said, there’s a process for refugees yet this Administration and the left wants to just open another flood gate.

I pray Trump makes it, that we can save this country and turn back to God.

In the past we have languished over the fact that Republican leaders have been unwilling to listen and change policy to fit the times.

Here we have a guy that delivered what I think was a problematic response days ago, someone got to him, and he reconsidered.

Either we mean what we say or why say it?

Do we want politicians to listen to us? Do we want them to be responsive. Do we want them to change policy to reflect a more correct understanding?

The message that is being sent these days is this.

Sure we asked to have responsive candidates.

Yes we realize you're responsive.

We now find that very troubling!

We couldn't trust you then. We can't trust you now!

I ask once again. Why would any politician take us seriously? We demand they listen, they do, we trash them for it.

No matter what they do, our "TEAM" isn't happy.

Good freakin grief!
