I traveled frequently through Europe when I was younger. I went back, last summer, for a family reunion in the NL. I had a very pleasant time, but I am no longer interested in traveling anywhere I can't get to by (my) car.
And the fewer other people there, the better. Basically, private beach house (Gulf coast) or mountain cabin.
I agree! I have made quite a few trips to Europe and Britain and other places around the globe. I'm done! Car trips in the US only!
