Hey there your Hole-In-The-Headliness, this predecessor of yours didn't seem to think guns were all that bad, in fact they were quite useful in resisting tyranny:

I thought the Swiss Guards carry only pikes & halberds.

(just kidding, they all have modern police weapons & training).

If we went to the Vatican and tried to tell him how to run the church, I wonder how he would like it.

This guy can butt out of our internal affairs. NOW!

It’s none of his business. PERIOD!

Not even close. Francis was talking about COUNTRIES making money on arms-sales, fueling wars, not about the 2nd amendment or gun-sales to individuals.

“Being at the service of dialogue and peace also means being truly determined to minimize and, in the long term, to end the many armed conflicts throughout our world. Here we have to ask ourselves: Why are deadly weapons being sold to those who plan to inflict untold suffering on individuals and society? Sadly, the answer, as we all know, is simply for money: money that is drenched in blood, often innocent blood. In the face of this shameful and culpable silence, it is our duty to confront the problem and to stop the arms trade.”

I guess we won’t be seeing any more canonizations among the martyrs of the Spanish Civil War. When the government started destroying churches and imprisoning clergy in 1936, the army attempted to overthrow it; when that failed, a Catholic militia (the Carlists) was critical in securing sections of northern Spain for the army (and preventing more murders of clergy).

When Jesus had to choose an apostle to lead the Church, He chose a very flawed man who at least had the courage to draw (and use) a sword when they came to arrest Him. He knew Peter would die for the faith (and he did). The gentle John the Beloved had his reward by being the only one to die a natural death - he was not designated the head of the Church.

Just so the Roman Catholic Bishop of Rome may undestand that the owner ship of weapons is not an issue..

From the book of John
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

Christ did admonish him for using the sword, but that Peter had it says volumes.

Each new Bishop of Rome reminds me why I am a Christian, but not a Catholic.

“How religious Catholics can tolerate this worm of a man as their leader is beyond me.”

I’m not a Catholic, but I think it is the same way that we all have to endure Obama as president. What else can you do, within the law? Very little.

Rudolph Rummel should be famous, and his findings should be taught in high school. Among his accomplishments was to add up the body counts of communism and democracy. What he learned about the lethality of communism explains why academic leftists ignored him.

Hmmmmm....Uzi is Jewish. The others are probably Lutheran. I wonder if it makes a difference when submitting a weapons bid to the Vatican.

i have pictures that i sent to my friends of all the port-a-potties around here in philly. my comment was:
the street department misread the memo from mayor (who is a) “Nutter”. he wrote: we need to to be prepared for the huge crowds when the pope comes here.. They misread the memo and thot he said, we need to be prepared for the huge poop coming. every one in the city is taking pictures of the thousands of port-a-potties lined up on all the major streets. i’ll try to post the pics. does the Nutter think catholics need to p** alot? Sorry, i’m prating for a huge rainstorm. best security measure.

Popes don’t have constitutions to worry about. Some don’t even confine themselves to the scriptures.

As far as I am concerned, a healthy arms industry in this country is necessary for our security and that of our allies, including Israel. We and our allies prevent true barbarism from running wild. As such, the Pope should be THANKFUL that we sell arms.

Oh, and regarding Israel, it is the one place Jews have had a refuge for the last 2,000 years...during much of which the Pope’s organization led the intellectual, theological and physical persecution and mass murder of the Jews - the very People that gave birth to the Church’s savior. The Pope should tread very carefully in these matters.

Frankly, he should largely mess out of non-religious affairs...his doctrinal infallibility does not apply here, and he opens himself up to any and all criticism.

“How did they get Benedict to resign?”

I always thought that was very very suspicious and wasn’t surprised at all by whom he was replaced with.

How religious Catholics can tolerate this worm of a man as their leader is beyond me.
***************************************
Based on articles posted on FR every day, it appears that many of the Cardinals in Europe are refusing to follow his dictates (or whatever Catholics call them) and the Catholic church attendance and membership is continuing to fall.

Oh... If the subject of your above statement was Obama and the words “religious Catholics” were replaced with “Americans”, it would still be appropriate.

So we have a president that is not American and Catholics have a pope that is not Christian...

You can’t imagine how odd it is to be an American Catholic at this point; we can just hope it is a short papacy (and the Kenyan communist is almost done).

I’ve found it very therapeutic to just think like a gibsmedat (basically, about nothing but myself and my family/tribe); I can hear the most horrific news and shrug. I don’t “give” anything beyond what Uncle Sam wrings from me...
