Sen Ted Cruz is likely going to be VP.
But, could you just imagine him controlling the purse strings of Congress....and, standing up against Midge? (That is, until Midge resigns, next :)
Would be glorious!! But, Cruz has better options....VP, SCOTUS, etc.

Yes, but that nomination will happen next August. Why not take over as Speaker of the House in January 2016, then become President of the Senate in January 2017?
