Ben Carson bashed the media for playing politics as he pushed back against characterizations of his controversial comments about Muslims during a Friday speech.
"The media is the only business in America protected by the United States Constitution. There was a reason they were protected, they were supposed to be on the side of the people. They were not supposed to pick and choose what side they are on," Carson said at the Values Voter Summit, a conference for religious conservatives.
"One day, they'll come to understand that if the nation goes off the cliff, they are going off with it."
Carson has been on the defense since he said that he would not "advocate" for a Muslim to be president during an interview last Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
He doubled down that night in an interview with The Hill, where he said the only way he'd support a Muslim is if the candidate “publicly rejected all the tenets of Sharia and lived a life consistent with that.” During his Friday speech, he emphasized that refusing to advocate for a Muslim candidate doesn't mean he wants to bar one from running.
"We all have the right to decide who we wanted to advocate for," he said.
"Political correctness is ruining our country and we need to stand up for what we actually believe."

I will watch him with a close eye but consider his background. I do not believe the Doctor is a liar. I do believe he spoke out of ignorance about the Second Amendment before.
I’m sure after a little while rubbing arms with the political class he can understand the need for the Second Amendment.
I support Cruz to be clear but as I said I don’t believe the Doctor to be a liar and I do believe he has changed his 2A stance.

Newspapers and pamphleteers were the media at the time the Constitution was written and they were never really “neutral” or “unbiased”. In fact they were even more blatantly biased and inflammatory than any of today’s media. They were and are protected so that ALL opinions can be heard. The problem is subtle and not so subtle discrimination and censorship by the true to form Fascists of the Left (who dominate journalism schools and all media but radio and the web) and who have come up with Political Correctness, the sort of stand on its head name George Orwell would have understood.
Political correctness is the un-codified prohibition prohibiting blasphemy against liberalism. To speak negatively about a liberal cause might easily cause the loss of income, provoke an IRS audit or bring down SJW wrath. It is the stifling of free speech. It the suppression of reason and the preemptive defeat of the opposition to liberal goals. It is inherently unjust and socially toxic. It is the revocation of the first amendment without all the trouble to call for a repeal.
