WARSAW, Poland (AP) The Russian ambassador to Poland has sparked outrage for putting some of the blame for World War II on Poland, creating a new spat amid deepening tensions between the Slavic nations.
Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev on Friday described the Soviet's 1939 invasion of Poland as an act of self-defense, not aggression.

Yes, those Evil Poles, whose nation was eliminated in 1795 and not to appear again until 1918, the nerve of them to assert themselves.
Wow, new talk about another grievance Industry.
I like Zero Hedge for its articles about finance and economics, but agreed that there is a large amount of bonkers conspiracy theories about Jews and zionists in the postings section.
So did the Soviet Union.
Hitler responded to men in Polish uniforms invading Germany from Poland.
(That they were German special forces dressed in Polish uniforms and carrying Polish weapons is irrelevant...)
Funny Germany attacked Poland from the west and Stalinist Russia attacked Poland from the east all by a pact. Of course lefty Roosevelt forgave the Ruskies.
On balance, I understand their outrage. By 1938, they weren’t the aggressors.
What I’m saying is, everyone sees it in their own light.
Germans also attacked from Slovakia.
Not initially...
WW II got rolling because the English and French did honor their commitments to Poland. But, if they had been a bit more proactive earlier, Hitler wouldn’t have dared invade Poland.
Munich emboldened Hitler; and the Soviet Pact made war seem less risky to him.
The fact that they waited until the 17th to move in doesn’t change the fact that the invasion was already agreed to.
“Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev on Friday described the Soviet’s 1939 invasion of Poland as an act of self-defense, not aggression.”
Oh bullsh*t, Russia!
To be honest it is poetic justice that the Nazis kicked their butts as hard as they did at first. Serves them right.
HOWEVER. Poland isn’t innocent either. They gladly took a bit of Czechoslovakia for themselves when the Nazis were craving the place up.
I thought Danzig didn’t belong to Poland to begin with? Wasn’t it made an independent city-state after WW1, albeit one populated mainly by Germans?
I would say it began when the Germans moved into the Rhineland and the French didn’t fire a single shot. It was then Hitler knew the British and French wouldn’t do anything to stop him.
The same land the Czechs stole from Poland in 1920, when Poland was busy fighting off the Red Army.
Plus the Czechs didn’t even fight for their own country when the Nazis came in, why should Poland have allowed the Germans to occupy that area.
“Over! Did I hear someone say it’s over?? Was it over when the Poles started WWII?”
“It was the Germans who started WWII”
“Forget it, he’s rolling”
