Germany went through a period of extreme nationalism under Hitler, with disastrous results. With their cities in ruins, the deaths of millions of Germans, military and civilian, and an initially harsh occupation, especially in East Germany, the Germans thoroughly repudiated their nationalist past. Since VE Day, the German theme effectively changed to Deutschland Unser Alles. Despite a return to prosperity, Germany has suffered from a self-hatred manifested in their supine tolerance for Middle Eastern hordes. Left unchanged, Germany will effectively cease to exist except as a geographical entity between the Low Countries and France on the west and Poland on the east.
