It is time to get very afraid: Extremists, authoritarians now run the GOP (trunc)

Movement Conservatives just claimed the head of House Speaker John Boehner. His political death was the price of preventing a catastrophic government shutdown after Movement Conservatives in Congress tied the very survival of the United States government to their determination to defund Planned Parenthood. Movement Conservatives are gunning for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next. We should be very afraid. Boehner and McConnell are not wild-eyed lefties. They are on the very far right of the American political spectrum: fervently pro-business, antiabortion, opposed to social welfare legislation. But they are old-school politicians who still have faith in the idea of American democracy.

Movement Conservatives do not. They want to blow up the government and remake America according to their own radical ideology.

From the article:

"But President Ronald Reagan unhinged the rhetoric of Movement Conservatism even further from reality. He told folksy stories about Welfare Queens who stole tax dollars and hardworking individuals threatened by “a little intellectual elite in a far-distant Capitol.” When journalists fact-checked Reagan, he accused them of bias and rallied supporters against the “Liberal media.” And it played. In 1987, his administration ended the Fairness Doctrine that had required media to present facts and a wide range of opinions. This enabled Movement Conservatives to spew their worldview on talk radio and later television, railing against lazy blacks, women, minorities, workers and “Liberals,” all of whom were destroying America and holding the country back from regaining its former glory. And the more Movement Conservatives attacked, the more they weakened their enemies, and the more they despised them. Just as Hoffer had predicted."

She ably represents the Jesuit (like the Pope) Boston College.

Wow, overstate much? The very survival of the government?? We wish!

The left wants to define us as ‘angry and scary’ then point the finger at us and say see, ‘angry and scary’. These writers need to save some of their ‘great insight’ for liberals... people they seem to be clueless about.

Authoritarians who want to “blow up the government” and reduce its power? I guess that the definition of authoritarian has changed recently.

We conservatives wish to re-make America according to the rule of law in the Constitution. In some circles, this is considered "radical ideology." So be it.

What an exaggeration....conservatives claim the head of John Boehner.... The Speaker was ready to retire a year ago....now retiring a few weeks short of the planned date. Working under a lawless president and a growing insistent conservative congress, by retiring he has saved his own life from certain collapse of health and gives time for this congress to get its act together to stop the Obama train wreck.

Hee Hee. I have a better idea. Let's put them all in communes where they can get back to the earth, grow all their own organic food, from each according to his ability - to each according to his need.

No one allowed to leave for 5 years. ha ha ha Talk about reeducation......

Reallyy? Let me think.
Who are the Authoritarians?
The establishment whose main purpose is to protect and perpetuate their corrupt private playground?

Or the "authoritarians" who insist on the rule of law, the constitution, some minimal standards of ethics and morals, who insist that railing about problems endlessly but never actually solving problems is a total FAIL in the realm of governance?

Clearly. it's no longer "BS" rules, and corruption is the norm.
If you can't solve the problems plaguing us, but instead make them worse, steadily marches all of us into the chaos that toads like King whine about.

They still haven't figured out that they no longer are part of the problem, THEY ARE ENTIRELY THE PROBLEM!

The sooner that they resign, willingly or otherwise, the sooner that "we the people" can restore the intended legal master-servant relationship.

You work for us, a******s! Deal with it. You can no longer win.
