Can they? I didn’t know. Either way they need some mega support from outside, they can’t do much on their own, in that region remember they’re a minority.

Not really. You need a machine shop, knowledge, materials and ammo.
No matter how much the non isis mohammadens fear isis they still hate Christians more and when you are a very small minority afloat in a sea of enemies that want you dead...well...you get the picture.
