"Russian Air Strikes Unleash Never Seen Before Mass Devastation in Syrian"

Syrians living in rebel-held areas of Homs province have seen a lot of destruction in four years of war, but say the Russian air force unleashed a whole new level of devastation in air strikes on their towns on Wednesday.

Jets flying at higher altitudes than the Syrian air force emitted no noise to alert the people below to raids reported to have killed at least 33 civilians, including children.

"We have been exposed to a wide range of weapons over the last five years, but what happened today was absolutely the most violent and ferocious, and the most comprehensive in the northern Homs countryside," said a doctor in the town of Rastan, speaking from one of the areas targeted by the jets.

"As I speak to you now the mosque minarets are warning of planes in the sky and warning that gatherings of people should disperse," he told Reuters, declining to be named out of fear for his safety.

He said the 11 people killed in the town, some 12 miles north of the city of Homs, included three children and their father who died along with two visitors when their home was hit. "It was as if the house never was," said the doctor, who helped treat casualties from the attack.

He and others on the ground had no way of knowing for sure the jets were Russian when they struck in the morning. But their altitude, the way they manoeuvred, and later reports that Russia had started air strikes, with Rastan among the targets, left them in little doubt.

Unless the Saudis have something on Obama that would compel him to jump in on their side. Then we’d be looking at a nuclear standoff with Putin in the Middle East. Not good.

Russia is bombing towns in Syria that are controlled by anti-regime rebels
— and not by ISIS

BEIRUT — Russia has conducted its first airstrikes in Syria after Moscow received formal parliamentary approval to conduct military operations in the war-torn country.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the country’s air force had “begun airstrikes on the Islamic State positions in Syria.”

The statement came after pro-rebel All4Syria outlet reported in the morning that Russian jets had conducted raids early Wednesday in the village of Zafarana north of Homs as well as near the town of Lataminah northwest of Hama, neither of which are ISIS strongholds.

A number of other activist websites also ran stories on the strikes, which allegedly targeted not only Lataminah and Zafarana, but also a number of other rebel-held towns north of Homs.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that at least 27 people, including five women and six children, had been killed in airstrikes on areas in the Homs towns of Rastan, Talbisa and Zafarana, while videos circulated purporting to show the aftermaths of the raids. ...”

There are three groups of people fighting in Syria:
1. Forces loyal to al-Assad.
2. Forces loyal to the Caliph.
3. Other forces.

The Russians are in the first group. ISIS and its subsidiaries are in the second group. The third group consists of other thugs who want to replace al-Assad with their own brand of Mohham-madman thuggery.

I say let them kill each other off. The higher the body count, the better a place Syria will be.

a doctor in the town of Rastan, speaking from one of the areas targeted by the jets.

It can’t have been that awesome, he survived.

Ah, but he didn’t bomb ISIS - he bombed Syrian “moderates” who oppose Assad.

That's how you win wars. Wait till the troops arrive. I would expect to see bath house barry on the news tonight complaining.

Nice to see some ADULTS being engaged in Syria. Maybe those ISIS terrorists streaming into Europe knew what was coming.

That must be the Mosque that was hit. Probably used as a command and control or ammo dump. That tactic might work against an American strike but not a Russian one.

" the Breaking Defense report said"

The forces in place are not even enough to secure Syrian airspace against a modern Air Force.

They appear to only be sufficient to fly CAP while the SU-24s and SU-25s ensure the survival of the Assad regime.

Russia's scope is limited, not by politics but by the forces present.

Amen to that. If you have to die, looking up and saying ‘what is that?’ a split second before you are vaporized beats the heck out of being burned alive in a cage.

The Russians don’t show up for combat without their S-400 SAMS. As someone familiar with that missile and how it was developed, about the best thing we can do now is simply leave and forget we were ever there. It certainly beats having our planes shot down like sitting ducks, which is the case against those batteries.

But we do have 2 women that just graduated from Ranger School and an LGBT running the Air Force...so maybe I’m wrong.

How comes every attack in these shiiteholes is a wedding, a festival always, civilians (which they do NOT have, they are all part of the opposition)?
