Russia launches more Syria strikes as 'Iran and Hizbollah prepare ground operation' - live updates

Russian jets bomb rebel positions in Syria including rural areas near the north-western town of Jisr al-Shughour, a day after launching air strikes. Follow latest developments here

Russia's defence ministry releases footage of four more air strikes in Syria. The ministry posted footage on its official YouTube page that it says shows night air strikes by Russian aviation on four Isil sites in Syrian territory.

The ministry said on its YouTube page militant infrastructure in Hama as well as near Idlib was destroyed by the air strikes.

14.10 Erdogan: Turkey will not allow 'fait accompli situations' next to borders

Turkey has been fairly quiet since Russian launched its air strikes. In yesterday's UN General Assembly speech, Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu did not bring up the strikes, only stressing the need for a safe zone (which Turkey has long argued for).

Rebel commander helped by CIA confirms being hit

Meanwhile, the commander of a rebel group that has been given military training by the CIA in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, confirmed that a training camp they run was hit.

Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group, said the camp in Idlib province was struck by around 20 missiles in two separate sorties.

"It's back, it's back," says one person off-camera as the roar of a jet is heard overhead.

"The shape of the explosion is very different from the one that would result from bombing by the Assad forces," says Abdallah. Behind him, the camera captures a multi-headed plume of smoke rolling above the landscape.

Lots of reports of the Russians second round of daytime airstrikes going in right now. including the overnight strikes that would be three rounds of strikes, just today.

Also reports that 20 more Russian aircraft arrived at Latakia this morning.

Also chatter that Russian Long-range heavy bombers are being prepped in southern Russia.

Sounds like Putin doesn’t intend to screw around with pin-prick strikes like Obama has done.

Maybe the end of one war, but more likely the start of many others.

Well, not a problem. Appointing a gay Secretary of the Army should fix all that.

I was completely against training anybody to fight Assad. they would lose in the end to ISIS and then ISIS would take our equipment.

But it doesn’t look good on the world stage that Russians are killing rebel groups formed and trained by the CIA.

Imagine if we would have gone through with the no fly zone in Syria!!!

Apparently, ISIS (and not “ISIL” as the Current Regime keeps calling it) is continuing to exist under some kind of charm, most of the forces arrayed against it veering off and attacking other targets.

When ISIS is finally booted altogether from Iraq and Syria, the opened land should be given to the Kurds as the core provinces of a newly recognized Kurdistan, and all the non-Muslim Syrian refugees now streaming into Europe be repatriated to the Kurdistan region, and the Muslims to what remains of Syria. Then the Syrians sort out who were the militants seeking to hide in the refugee flood, and segregate them accordingly.

Thirty years from now when Obama is sitting around his prayer rug with his grandson on his knee, and the kid asks: “What did you do in the great Middle east/Syrian war? Obama will have to say, “Well, I shoveled shit in Louisiana.”

Also regular Iranian army.

Saudi Arabia is in big trouble long term. Toppling that regime is the best way to knock up oil prices.

Speaking to CNN about the Russian-led air strikes in Syria, Mr McCain said: “I can absolutely confirm to you that they were strikes against our Free Syrian Army recruits that have been armed and trained by the CIA because we have communications with people there.”

He claims Russian forces targeted the US-backed rebel group, who are opponents of Russian ally Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group told Reuters that two Russian air strikes hit the group’s training camp in Idlib province. He said the rebel group received military training from the CIA in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Only improvement to that all too accurate depiction is the coin box. There should be some indication that the coin value needed to run is $1 Trillion, or thereabouts.
