Minority Students Held Back in Math: Report

Minority students in some San Mateo and Santa Clara County school districts were asked to repeat Algebra 1 when they entered high school even though the students passed the class in 8th grade, according to a report.

A report funded by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation says that math misplacement was done with minority students in a disproportionate number over white students. "It happens because some teachers have a bias toward kids of color, particularly Latino and African American kids," said Emmett Carson, Silicon Valley Community Foundation CEO.

Congressional Black Caucus members believe the study shows some school districts are holding a significant number of minority students back from achieving higher education.

Are they actually being held back by the racist white power structure or could there possibly be a different cause for their inability to grasp the subject matter?

I saw this sort of situation in a number of classes, both in high school and college (and I was a math TA in college.)

Students being passed without having the knowledge they need to continue, I forget what the term for it is.

When I tool HS Algebra (1976 or so,) the teacher was just marking time until retirement. The school administration had a policy of weekly quizes, and every Friday, he gave a 10 question quiz. A score of 5 (out of 10) or better gave an ‘A.’ 4 received a ‘B.’ 3 a C, 2 or lower a D. The only way to fail a quiz was to not turn in a piece of paper with your name on it. Seriously, a blank page except for your name would get you a D!

Not a single student was held back, and just let me say, he was a terrible teacher to boot!

Our vote-crazed Muslim president's obsession w/ emptying out the Third World into the US is turning US schools into refugee camps........w/ big plans to inculcate the savage illiterates w/ hate-America, anti-American ideology....IOW reliable Democrat voters.

==================================================

CASE IN POINT A primetime network news segment focused on an "impoverished" latino mother who paid big bucks to get her/ son coached to take the College Boards---but he was so stupid, he still couldn't pass them. So the C/B decided to "change" them so that Pedro could pass using subversive Third World hate-filled US history.

THIRD WORLD INFILTRATION College Board exams changed history answers... revisionist historians developed different answers to the question of what America’s story is about. From their perspective, at the heart of our country’s history—like the history of any other powerful nation—lies the pursuit of empire, of dominion over others. At its core, say the revisionists, America’s history is about our capacity for self-delusion, our endless attempts to justify raw power grabs with pretty fairy-tales about democracy. ....

NOTE WELL: This terrifying Third World revisionism is straight out of Third World textbooks---emphasizing the T/W effort to undermine US ntl security for the coming armed takeover.

The conniving T/W uses an ancient formula going back to Greco-Roman times---where savages, barbarians and thieves overrun a bountiful country lusting after its power and riches.

REFERENCE Some 10 years back, Texas schools started used Mexican textbooks for their backward illiterate Spanish-speaking students. Textbooks advocated the Mexican perspective including:

<><> anti-white, anti-capitalist anti-USA viewpoints;

<><> Mexican textbooks falsified US history,

<><> proselytized blood-thirsty La Raza savagery;

<><> using teaching as brainwashing;

<><> inculcating violent separatist, latino supremacy ideology.

Subversive Texas Textbooks---distributed nationwide--- vilify conservative groups
Breitbart Texas | 09/10/2014 | Merrill Hope / FR Posted by Rusty0604

In 2006, uber-liberal "Texas Rising" stated its mission: "developing an emerging generation of social justice-minded, informed and engaged leaders is essential to the long-term health of our communities and the development of progressive public policy in Texas."

...a sneak peak at the preliminary Social Studies textbook findings TTT has found including distortions, omissions and half- truths all passing for accurate high school history..."The radical right consists of groups that sometimes gather under the flag of militant anticommunism."

"Often known as reactionaries, they denounce most forms of government regulation, including progressive taxation and restrictions and industry. Strangely enough, these radicals would not hesitate to use the government's police power to enforce the changes they desire. Examples of political groups on the radical right are the John Birch Society, the National States & Rights party, The Christian Crusade, and the Tea Party movement." I am going to guess that these minority students were predominantly blacks and Hispanics, and few Asian Indians or Orientals. Just a hunch.

I’m not sure the schools were tired of dealing with them.

Maybe if they flunked minorities they’d be called racist.

"I don't follow. Why would they be asked to repeat it if they passed the class?"

Probably because they demonstrated that they didn't learn anything from the class the passed.

My question is did they pass with a “D” or did they pass with a “B’? They may not have shown enough proficiency the first go around to be able to grasp Algebra II and higher maths. A lower level passing grade does not bode well for their ability to do well in higher level courses.

Here's some promising math geniuses ---Somali Muslims in Maine.

=================================================

Thanks to the WH ding-a-ling, this is how far we have fallen: The Lewiston mayor asks Muslim immigrants to become Americans and adopt American values, as all immigrants did. The arrogant immigrants (all on public assistance) reply by demanding his resignation.

Muslims are too stupid to adapt. They take the easy way out....forcing Non-Muslims to adapt to their intellectually vacuous mindset. They are a cult of dumbells.

=============================================

Mainers better get on the stick---this Somali Muslim absurdity cannot go unchallenged.....b/c it is tantamount to the overthrow of the US govt. These ignoramus Somali Muslims are being aided and abetted in overthrowing the US govt by the Muslim ding-a-ling in the WH.

=============================================

BGRND About 6,000 Somali immigrants have settled in Lewiston, Maine---nearly all-white, heavily French-Canadian and largely Roman Catholic city of 36,000, giving Lewiston the highest concentration of Somalis anywhere in America.

The Somalis began arriving in this city in February 2001, beginning the ethnic transformation of a city that was 97 percent white. Lewiston’s Somalis now represent close to 10 percent of the population, with an additional 30 or so arriving each month. Because of the Somalis’ large families, the percentage in the schools is even higher. Living off welfare, many Somalis have moved into the city’s housing projects.

The Somalis were initially ‘resettled’ in Georgia. However one of their community ‘organizers’ discovered that the ‘benefits’ of living in Maine far exceeded those of Georgia and the whole ‘community’ moved en masse to Lewiston. Because they’re here to be productive contributing members of society. Or something.

If you think some students didn’t understand math years ago, you’d be surprised at how bad things are now.

College students, no matter what color, have very poor math skills and need to take remedial courses. I’m not talking algebra or calculus performance. I’m talking arithmetic.

A significant percentage of them can’t answer this question: Which is larger, 0.09 or 0.12?

They will answer 0.09 and when asked why they will say because everything works backwards to the right of the decimal.
