Russias first direct airstrikes hit U.S.-supported moderate rebels in areas more than 50 miles from ISIS. In the end, Russia did not even look for a fig leaf when striking non-ISIS targets, including Jaysh al-Fatah, an insurgent coalition that has al-Qaeda as one component. Russia instead went straight for attacks on the most politically viable alternative to Bashar al-Assad.

Moderate rebels = Unicorns
You need to do better research on the targets the Russians hit and the groups they were aiming for
The “ Army of Conquest” is not moderate or good . It includes Al Qaeda in Syria and the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria - yet our pentagon condemns the Russians for targeting them
There are no good guys opposing Assad, only sunni and salafist extremists determined to institute a caliphate and ethnically cleanse Syria of Christians Alawites or anyone who is not radically sunni ... Thousands of the “ moderate rebels” are not even Syrian but are radicals from all over the region. We are arming them
The FSA has killed as many civilians as has Assad and the UN found they were most likely to have used chemical weapons on civilians, not Assad . fortunately for Russia and Syria they are the least committed to their cause and are surrendering and fleeing en masse if Russian battle commentary is to be believed
