Meet the Underdog Republican Running for Speaker of the House

ouse Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy may have emerged as the frontrunner in the race for speaker of the House, but Florida Rep. Daniel Webster is emboldening his Republican colleagues to buck leadership’s status quo in favor of a new approach to legislating.

Speaker John Boehner’s decision to retire sent Republicans scrambling to decide who would run for the leadership positions. So far, Webster is facing McCarthy and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, in the race for the top Republican leadership position. But with the House Republican conference gathering on Thursday, more contenders could emerge before then.

Though McCarthy has been considered the favorite to win, Webster, 68, is pitching himself as a leader with a proven record from his days in Florida’s state house, and one who is looking to deviate from business as usual in the Republican conference.

I think I like Webster...from the little that I know of the three that have thrown their hats into the ring(Webster, McCarthy, and Chaffetz)

Webster has only three weeks to sound his trumpet. He needs to get out there and do interviews, offering face time, and views on issues of the GOP. I haven’t seen him at all.
I only barely see Chaffetz, and that’s because I’m a news junkie, unlike the average person.

I’d like to see someone for Speaker who isn’t a politician or a lawyer

I’d be cool with Louie Gohmert as Speaker.

Why? It's not like we get to vote for the people running for the position, nor can we expect our Representatives to heed our wishes.

The only time anyone pays attention to us is when they need our votes, after that we are just background noise to them.

Webster is my congressman and I’ve known him personally since long before he ran for congress. Great guy, his office always comes in under budget for the year and never takes a raise in pay. He gives surpluses back to the Feds. He is very mild mannered but is a solid conservative.

https://www.conservativereview.com/ Webster gets a `D’ rating here.

The American Conservative Union gives him an 81% rating. Why aren’t `Grade A’ conservatives stepping up?
This militates in favor of a new party if all we can get are 2nd raters to run from the GOP when we are almost handing them the jobs.

Well, I do like his name. : ) If he had the energy and determination which his name connotes-—he could win. We need a solid conservative, but he has to be a pit bull also.

You “argue” with yourself when buying a car or even when deciding where to go for lunch, right?

And there are no hard feelings with your spouse when you weigh the options and decide to go with his/her or your opinion.

Right?

We just managed to shed one bad speaker, and it looks like another looser is measuring his seat for a cushion.

For the love of Curly Fine—talk about it!
