Austin saw a spike in reported violent crimes last year compared with 2013, according to the annual FBI Uniform Crime Report released Monday. Some noteworthy numbers:

3,581: Number of violent crimes in 2014, a 14.7 percent rise from 2013, reversing a downward trend. By comparison, the similarly sized, tech-centric and high-growth city of Charlotte, N.C., reported 5,054 violent crimes in 2014.

163%: Change in the number of Austin rape cases. The 571 reported rape cases in 2014 is more than twice the 217 reported in 2013. But authorities attributed the increase to a broader definition of rape being used in the FBI report, officials said.

Another city full of Liberals proves their social experiment failed. Frustrated with the government's experiment in Socialism, I left last year. Place looks best in my rear view-mirror. Don't move there and if you go there stay off 6th Street. Like naked bike riders, half the street in bus lanes all empty, high taxes, traffic (if you can have traffic in a parking lot), streets named one name going South and another going North, K Street West, move there. The most egotistical, self centered, self serving population in the country. Great place to die.

Move there ... heck, I won’t even go there to visit.

Hey Texas. Austin is a cancer. You think that it is just a funny looking freckle. Nothing serious. America, as a whole used to think that way about San Francisco, and Detroit, and Chicago. Do yourself a favor. Have it removed.

You nailed it, especially the self serving, egotistical people. I have lived here for 15 years now and most people here are rude, unfriendly, and anti-social to boot. The day I can leave will be a happy one!

Take out the new definition of rape, as in a guy winking at a girl, and the increase is about 5%, roughly in line with the population growth of that city.

I finally figured out that the slogan “Keep Austin Weird” was code for “Keep Austin Liberal.”

Yes, unfortunately it is a blue dot on a red state.

That often happens in Capitol cities—as well as having the main campus of the University of TX there…….

Hey, we finally got a few conservatives on the city council after moving to 10 district representatives from the previous at-large slate of all liberals. It’s still controlled by liberals, but light is exposing some things now.

Exactly. I like to use the murder rate as the benchmark because it's least subject to fudging.
