I told our priest after our mid-week service last night that it is something for which we need to be prepared.
He agreed.
Thinking it is high time we started acting Israeli Jewish.
Better to have a plan and be armed and not need it, than to need it and not have a plan or be armed.
Of late I’ve been noticing that many Southern churches (medium to large ones) have police on site. Have to wonder what _really_ prompted this tendency (though understandable for the “megachurches” just by sheer numbers), and have to consider that smaller churches unable to afford such active protection need provide their own. Details of precipitating events (if any) may be VERY hard to come by, few being willing to discuss “what happened” outside inner circles in grave/serious/whispered tones.
I carry a weapon at synagogue, under orders from my Rabbi, as do several of our group, including a police man.
We have had several drills on what to do.
