WASHINGTON — Representative Kevin McCarthy on Thursday abruptly took himself out of the race to succeed John A. Boehner as speaker, apparently undone by the same forces that drove Mr. Boehner to resign.

The Freedom Caucus needs to lead. The times require a united republican party that reflects the will of the people. I would suggest 1st focus on the what, as opposed to the who.

One thing I believe all republicans can agree on is the need to get their financial house in order. So, one of the two things I would recommend the Freedom Caucus hold out for is: significant spending cuts as part of the upcoming continuing resolution. Avoid specific programs, instead go for general cuts for example ask to remove the Stimulus from the baseline or just remove growth.

The second thing the Freedom Caucus should hold out for is: a process change. Delegation of authority is good, but, they need to put an end to these omnibus budget bills. We need a budget process that communicates the details to the American people is line with the constitution and produces efficient government.

Finally, I would also suggest they go with an interim Speaker. Unite behind anyone committed to the goals. I would suggest Newt, but, would love to see Trump.

And make it happen fast.

A strategy of making Obamna veto legislation would not only help the Republicans in Congress, but the presidential candidates as well.

Since Boehner has postponed election of a new Speaker even though there are two candidates we need to have a vote to vacate the chair.

Boehner has got to go. There is no reason for postponement.

Once the chair has been vacated a Speaker pro-tempore can be appointed. (I'm uncertain as to the procedure and I am researching and reading the House Manual)

The only conceivable reason for Boehner to postpone election is because his anointed candidate has dropped out.

Actually, there is no requirement that the Speaker be a member of Congress.

I would third West but first you have to get him elected to Congress
No, you don't. The Speaker is not required to be a sitting member of Congress.

And the neat thing is, under the rules, if he could get the votes he could be House Speaker.

Absolutely! That's why I mentioned him, but you're right, that's not commonly known.

And furthermore, he wouldn't just be hardover on the 2nd amendment. He would hold a Planned Parenthood defunding vote, an ACTUAL RECORDED VOTE, not a voice vote, in which he'd bring in huge screens with Gonzo-size speakers and play those Planned Parenthood undercover videos on the big screen in front of all the assembled members DURING the vote. Then Democrats will be ON RECORD voting for the dismemberment of babies at taxpayer expense, and it would make great fodder for the next anti-PP campaign to follow.

Ted Nugent for speaker, YES!

The Freedom caucus is driving this...and I am glad to see it.

They are uniting behind their man, Webster, and without their votes, no other candidate can win the Speaker

It’s time we get someone in as Speaker who is willing to take the fight to this malicious, anti-American administration.

Then let it serve as a sign to the Senate and what is awaiting them if they do not fight themselves. Cruz and a couple of others have been showing the way...but McConnell needs to go too.

Hannity just asked Newt if he would run for Speaker? Newt said he wouldn't get the votes. . "This requires serious thought. . this is a serious sobering time in American History. . If the house conference wanted me to be helpful, I would always be available as a citizen to be helpful. . you show up with 218 votes, I'll talk with you. . I just heard about this 10 minutes ago. . the new speaker will have to very aggressive with the media. . the new speaker has to fight. . executive amnesty, I would cut off the money. . people don't understand what closing the government means. . you have to have a willingness to tell the President what you are doing is unconstitutional. . I would cut off funding. ." (I couldn't help thinking, he sounds like Trump. . a Fighter!)

Draft Newt!
