However, for one to lay claim that one person is the bad dude is ridiculous. We are where we are because politicians of both parties, over decades, have no fiscal discipline. None. Not even a little bit.
Your parents' retirement and your family's future are already mortgaged. The only reason we, as a nation, are managing to get by, is because the interest rate is zero. As soon as the Fed starts raising the interest rate, interest payments on the national debt will become astronomical. Not overnight, but an increase of a quarter percent, then another, then it will be increased by one half of a percent, will cause our budget to get eaten by the interest payments.
I'm sorry to tell you that you are already screwed and the politicians know it.
At some point we will become like Argentina and we will have to default on our debt. It is not possible to pay back 18 trillion in debt. The crash will be enormous. Store away some cash - don't keep it all in the bank. And just like Greece, it will happen practically overnight. As soon as investors lose confidence in the dollar, it will begin.
