Maybe I missed something, but doesn't the Speaker need to be a member of Congress? Last I checked, Newt isn't.

No the Speaker of the House does not have to be a sitting member of Congress. Anyone can run.

Maybe I missed something, but doesn't the Speaker need to be a member of Congress? Nope. Congress can elect anyone they want for speaker. Newt would be fine but I would prefer Sarah Palin.
