Defying a White House veto threat, the Republican-controlled House on Friday approved a bill to lift a 40-year-old U.S. ban on crude oil exports.
The House approved the bill on a 261-159 vote. Supporters said an ongoing boom in oil and gas drilling has made the 1970s-era restrictions obsolete. Lifting the export ban would lower prices at the pump, create jobs and boost the economy, said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. [ ]
The White House called the bill unnecessary and argued that a decision on whether to end the ban should be made by the Commerce secretary.

I support lifting the ban, but I also believe nothing that comes out of that lying scumbags mouth.
“Lifting the export ban would lower prices at the pump”
How would exporting oil, thus making it more scarce, lower prices at the pump?
Because if you can ship Bakken crude from Noonan North Dakota to a refinery in Saskatoon (325 miles) instead of shipping it to a refinery in Oklahoma City (1,175 miles), you have reduced costs and increased safety.
Bingo!
Volume. If an oil company has to pump more crude to meet its export contracts, crude also becomes cheaper for domestic use.
Gee the right thing to do takes a little time and cost a little more up front. So your solution is to short circuit that process for short term gain. F that.
I just don’t understand it. They performed so much better when they had no majorities. Now they are so fearful of losing power that they wont use the power they have to push the agenda they claimed they supported. Then they do have the will to fight their own base in favor of outright corporatism? There is indeed something rotten not just in the leadership but in a huge part of the GOP conference.
I think they have taken that old adage, Never interfere with an enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself, to a ridiculous level. They didn’t win in 2014. I have read it was the lowest voter turnout in 70 years, but the people that turned out were angry at Democrats. They know Obama continues to rule against the will of the people, so they are happy to keep their heads down, and let the Democrats reap what they have sown. This strategy has some validity, but I think they have reached the point where hiding their heads in the sand is viewed with the same disdain as ruling against the people. Problem is, they are still of the mind they should just keep their heads down.
Ah. I see you’ve made up your mind on the subject. You should do some research and lose your ignorance.
Republican Gerald Ford not Jimmy signed the ban into law.
If Boehner said it you know it's not true.
