In ‘diversity class’ we were required to tell the room what our culture was . . . German, Mexican, Italian, whatever.
The instructor laughed and said, “Some people try to answer American. But, America doesn't have it's own culture. So, tell us what your culture is.”
I guess I'd be fired 2 seconds after I said it.
First of all, we believe in individual liberty and freedom and these characteristics are backed up by the Bill of Rights. Secondly, we are openly critical of our leadership. Thirdly, ancestors came to the United States to flee the “cultures” that so many people love to praise — cultures of oppression and virtual slavery and poverty.
I remember the diversity classes. I think they were pushed by Wall Street mutual funds. They would put pressure on the company boards to implement diversity programs or effectively face sanctions affecting their stock price.
