Trump, Carson demand that next debate be limited to 2 hours

Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson are threatening to boycott the next GOP debate over its proposed format, underscoring a rare political alliance between the leading outsider candidates. In a joint letter to CNBC's Washington bureau chief Thursday, the billionaire businessman and retired neurosurgeon told the hosting network they will not appear at the Oct. 28 debate unless it's capped at two hours with commercials and the candidates are allowed to speak directly to the camera at its opening and close.

It is about time the media was told they don’t control the dialog.

Yes! And limited to only those candidates that have over 5% in a legitimate national poll. Hear me? Only over 5% in a legitimate national poll. Time to cut bait. 👹

Stupid move, but predictable.

Less time equals less of a chance for a candidate sitting lower in the polls to break out, but more likely to be excluded altogether.

In other words, they’re chickens.

I thought the debate format from the last 3 hour one was pretty good given the number of people on stage.

Until more people get out, the 2hr format isn’t going to work because the time will end up lopsided and too short.

Anything to stop Cruz I guess. God forbid someone have to answer a question with substance instead of just rhetoric and clever witticisms.

It’s a reasonable request. Those three plus hour talkathons are designed to end up showing the republicans in their worst light. At the end of a Three Hour Tour, nobody looks good. Sweaty dress shirts, rumpled, crooked neckties, shirt tails partially exposed, a facial expression of angry exhaustion and weakness in body posture, just the way the Dems want to see us.

Agree. 3+ is too long. And there shouldn’t be a kiddie’s table debate between Jindal and a potted plant either.

How do I get rid of accidental double postings?
Must I ask the moderator for help every time, or can I delete a double myself?

Break out of what?

Most folks know what they're all about. What are you talking about? Do you think millions of Americans after nearly 5 months of this are suddenly going to change their minds on any of these guys?

Come on.

This is a great idea. It's hard enough to watch most of these clowns for 2 hours, but that is better than 3 tediously boring hours.

Now, if we could completely eliminate all the less-than-1%-ers, and get the media debate moderators to limit their questions to legitimate questions about how the viable candidates are going to deal with the actual problems we now have, or will likely face in the near future in this country, that would be even better.

(Another great idea would be to get Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin to be the debate moderators.)

5%? One poll had Jebby at4%... LOL. Seriously - this should give you Trump, Carson, The Rube, iCarly, Cruz, and, yes, Jebby. That’s it. Bye to the rest.

Yes. Talk about displaying your leadership skills!

I think it’s going to be a Trump/Carson ticket. They seem to be working together.

Seriously. Next Republican debate must be for candidates who rank above 5% in a recent qualified national poll. Time to cut bait.

VP Carson presiding over the Senate? I can just see him leering at Minority Leader Chuck E Schumer...
