Trump triples down on George W. Bush’s responsibility for 9/11
The Washington Post ^ | 10-18-2015 | Karoun Demirjian

Donald Trump says he doesn’t flat out blame former president George W. Bush that the Sept. 11 terror attacks happened on his watch. But he can think of three reasons why one could hold Bush responsible.

And, he might add, they are three things a President Trump would do very differently.

“You always have to look to the person at the top,” Trump said Saturday in a telephone interview. “Do I blame George Bush? I only say that he was the president at the time, and you know, you could say the buck stops here.”

So why might one consider Bush responsible?

No. 1: Bush’s immigration policy. “We had very weak immigration laws,” Trump said, adding that perhaps if Bush had had a Trump-style immigration policy, replete with “the strong laws that I’m wanting, these terrorists wouldn’t have been in the country.”

"Bush not fixing the Gorelick Wall is a valid criticism by Trump."

I doubt that Trump even knew about the "Gorelick Wall" in 2001. I doubt that anyone can find even ONE pre-9/11 comment by Trump addressing ANY of the problems that led to 9/11. He is speaking with 20/20 hindsight.

"W" and his foreign girlfriend. Yuch.
Bush also let many Saudi so called "royals" slip out of the country when all airline flights were supposed be shutdown.

It is a fine point he was making but again and again said he was not placing blame.

Equine feces. To say GWB did not "keep us safe" is to not only assign accountability but to slander by association. Both are wrong and will be seen that way.

Of course Trump is right. The emperor was stark naked.

Btw, I believe the Boston Marathon terrorist entered the country during Bush’s reign as well.

The term "Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)" was originally coined to refer to nuclear weapons.

Obviously, Saddam Hussein would have liked to have nuclear weapons, but he didn't, and no one ever thought he did.

The extension of the term to include chemical and biological weapons was a late development. Saddam had chemical weapons, without doubt, but his BW program was apparently a fantasy.

My view of the whole Iraq debacle was and is that it was a mistake, and worse than a mistake since it was a proxy war (we needed to kick some Arab ass) to avoid engagement with the real enemy.

Iraq never rated more than a punitive expedition, and for what became the mission (occupation and reconstruction), the forces deployed were inadequate by orders of magnitude.

Whether Saddam had useable chemical munitions in March 2003, or didn't, was a minor matter, certainly not one to justify 4400 dead, 30 000 maimed, and $4 trillion pissed away.

W had majorities in both houses, so fixing illegal immigration could have been done. I have a feeling that Trump will get it done that quick. Of course W had no intention of protecting Americans and pushed amnesty instead.

Hogwash to your Equine feces. All Trump did was point out a fact that GW himself acknowledged during his administration. Period, end of story.

Just because Bush assumed his lawful responsibility does not acquit Trump for slander. Bush, in his typical stupidity, ended up covering for Clinton as a consequence.

Now, go clean up your Esquine feces mess.

Naw, you like wallowing in it too much.

This is enlightening. Bush or Rice didn't know who Bin Laden was even after Bin Laden bombed two United States Embassies back in 1998. Too much Hussein on the brain and not knowing and dismissing Ladin. It's an epic fail. From your link.

- - - -

W Bush - "To be honest with you Oprah, Bin Laden wasn't really on my radar," he explained. "I was so focused on Saddam Hussein that I couldn't see anything else. My CIA guys would come in and say 'Bin Laden's prepping an attack,' 'Bin Laden's prepping an attack,' and I was pretty much like 'Whatever. What do you got on Saddam?'

"There was a general lack of awareness. I'm pretty sure Condi Rice didn't even known who Bin Laden was. I had heard of him, but he sounded like more of a two-bit criminal to me so I didn't take him seriously. And that malunderestimation (sic) really cost us as a nation. "
