Gun-rights group vows to game mayor’s gun buyback effort

Hours after Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a $250,000 gun buyback program on Monday, a downstate gun-rights advocate promised to come to Chicago to exploit it.

“We will be delighted to transact business once more with do-gooders in Chicago,” John Boch, executive director of Champaign-based Guns Save Life, said Monday.

Guns Save Life used Chicago’s 2012 gun buyback to embarrass city officials. That year, members said they turned in about 60 guns — some of them rusty and inoperable.

They received $100 MasterCard gift cards for each gun, which they used to buy ammunition for a National Rifle Association youth camp in Bloomington and bolt-action rifles to give away to campers.

Suburban Chicago gun dealers also took advantage of the no-questions-asked policy of the 2012 buyback to unload inventory worth less than $100 in exchange for the $100 cards, sources said.

At the time, city officials angrily accused Guns Save Life of abusing a program intended to take guns off the streets of Chicago and reduce violence. But Boch says the group was simply demonstrating the ineffectiveness of the program.

I have been thinking we need more guns on the street. If everyone is carrying one, people will stop all this silly talk of trying to control them. They will realize they better get one too!

Now if only someone would produce a few million of those World War II "Liberator" pistols, and distribute them throughout all the inner cities, maybe we can move beyond these infantile efforts to control guns, and start recognize the need to control immoral/insane people.

Make it so. A fine piece of Cloward-Piven turnabout.

A couple of years ago people were BUYING the guns before they got to the buy-back tables. Some pretty nice deals were made. Of course that was back when private sales without any paperwork were legal.

Now I can’t even let my 19 year-old son hold my shotgun at the range! Seriously. That constitutes a “transfer”. Although I CAN “transfer” it to someone 17 years old if it is for instructional purposes. And my wife can use it - but only at a regulated gun range. (So no plinking at the gravel pit with her. Well, not legally anyway.)

I remember the expended LAW tube that was pictured in every report about the “buyback”, both on TV and in the papers. The hyperventilating was pure comedy gold, although it also demonstrated the aggressive ignorance of both the media and the gun grabbing politicians.
