Subway will start making its sandwiches bigger after a lawsuit claiming the chain's footlong sandwiches are shorter than advertised, according to a settlement proposal announced Monday. Subway came under fire two years ago when a photo went viral online showing a footlong sub next to a tape measure that showed the bun was actually 11 inches. The photo prompted a class-action lawsuit from Subway consumers who said they were cheated out of an inch of their sandwiches.
Subway has now agreed to start requiring franchisees to measure the bread they serve to ensure that footlong subs are 12 inches and 6-inch subs are no less than 6 inches, according to the settlement agreement. Nation's Restaurant News first reported on the settlement. Subway has also agreed to start compliance inspections to make sure restaurants are adhering to the new rules, according to the agreement. The restaurant chain will edit its training materials and franchisee protocols, "which had previously allowed for a small tolerance in the size of a footlong sandwich," to require that a footlong must be at least 12 inches.
A hearing for final approval of the settlement is scheduled for January, according to Subway.

Heck with the roll. Put more ingredients in the sandwich, mainly meat.
Real food looks like crap on camera. The big boys hire professional food photographers that use all kinds of tricks to make it look good.
And the price will go up. They were fine like they are.
Talk about frivolous lawsuits! But the lawyers made bank. $5 footlong means about 45 cents per sandwich. I have subway on occasion, I don’t feel the least bit cheated by the missing inch.
[ pans for making the frozen dough will be increased in length ]
YUP! Meanwhile skinnier bread will mean you can’t put as many toppings on the sammiches and thus they will be less tasty, which equals fewer customers and soon people will stop going there!
LOL...
What???
LOL! You’re right he’s constantly claiming he’ll leave and then never does. What a schmuck!
So now you get even more bread instead of fillings.
I tried to get a Subway franchise to charge for me for a 12” but put all the fillings on 6” half.
Nope can’t do it. Corporate won’t allow.
You have to take your own sandwich apart. Just because I believe that the bread is just to hold the filling.
I hope not...
LOL
[ Another one is how they measure TV set screens. My 32 inch TV is actually 31.5 inches measured diagonally. At least they admit it in the small print. ]
Paul Ryan promised they would work to repeal Obama Care and he didn’t do squat, if anything is false advertising then him running for office should be.
Isn’t it funny how we cannot file a class action suit against a politician for blatantly breaking a campaign promise????
People Blame business all the time, but if Politicians were like Businesses, at least we could sue their lying asses!
it’s true
I saw frozen meat, frozen egg portions and lots and lots of frozen bread loaves
the pallets get wacked and a case of the frozen stuff gets laid open for the contents to spill on the floor
LOL!
(Hard to believe, but true...) We had a potluck at work a couple weeks back, and they were wanting submarine type sandwiches. One gal suggested WalMart. They bought a sandwich from WalMart, freshly made. It was advertised as “six foot”, but was six separate sandwiches, each at least 15” long, on freshly made bread. Fairly HEAPED with roast beef, turkey, ham, and cheeses. Then a huge container of leaf lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, banana peppers, sliced onions. A jar of mayo, and a bottle of mustard. The whole thing cost $32.00.
Another co-worker said they get them often for her daughter’s softball team, and that was the normal (excellent) quality of food and service.
It put Subway to shame for basic sub sandwich value.
Ugh. too late.
Horrible “meat”, horrible “bread”.
And walking down a line like a seven-year-old at school got old really fast.
Walk up to Jimmie Johns, tell them what I want and it’s done in two minutes. Better all the way around.
Why would anyone eat at Subway? Other than war refugees? If you know you will have another meal in the next 18 hours, eating nothing would be vastly more healthy, and satisfying, than Subway dreck. But hey, at least you know they’re not spitting on it during the awkward assembly process.
True. I got a salad from them and they barely wanted to give me any meat!
