The irrefutable case for Paul Ryan
The American Spectator ^ | 10-22-15 | Ross Kaminsky

Posted on 10/22/2015 4:12:13 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Conservatives would be nowhere without him. Now they need to back him. Case closed.

(UPDATE: On Wednesday evening, the Freedom Caucus announced that a “supermajority” of its members support Paul Ryan for Speaker. While they did not reach the 80 percent threshold of the caucus members needed to issue a formal endorsement, this is, as Rep. Ryan put it, “a positive step toward a unified Republican team.” Ryan’s becoming speaker is still no sure thing, though more likely than it was Wednesday morning. Some Freedom Caucus members seem hesitant to switch their endorsement from Rep. Daniel “Not the Dictionary Guy” Webster; perhaps they should have thought of that before endorsing someone who never had a chance to win the job. The group’s official statement notes that “While no consensus exists among members of the House Freedom Caucus regarding Chairman Ryan’s preconditions for serving, we believe that these issues can be resolved within our Conference in due time.” Some conservative writers are hoping aloud that Ryan will not run for Speaker if he does not have an official endorsement of the caucus as he previously sought; it is, as it should be, unlikely that the difference of a single-digit number of votes within the Freedom Caucus will cause Ryan to turn away from this path. Despite the consensus within the Freedom Caucus, I expect continuing griping and sniping from the usual suspects…)

“Unacceptable,” says Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-KS). “Obscene,” says a Tea Party group. A conservative “death warrant,” says a well-known right-wing pundit.

These people, who have me wondering whether those who shape conservatives’ opinions or cast votes representing us in Congress really care about the country more than hearing their own voices, are objecting to conditions laid down by Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) for him to reluctantly agree to replace...

Add Ross Kaminsky and the American Spectator to Ryan’s list of supporters. He makes an excellent case for Ryan here.

There are certainly less impressive members of Congress than Ryan, but none I could think of who are more overrated. For several years he’s been presented in the press and by some conservative talkers as some sort of wunderkind and budget genius.

Then he was picked as Romney’s running mate and I’d be hard pressed to think of a VP candidate who brought less to a ticket. He was unimpressive on the stump and even less impressive in the one debate with Biden. He couldn’t even bring his own state to the Republican column, a state that had almost gone Republican in earlier presidential elections.

Overrated and an amnesty pusher as well as a pusher of any new trade agreement that comes along. Not an effective spokesman, wooden and rigid. Little or no improvement over Boner.

Conservatives would be nowhere without him.......>>>>>>>

Buahahahahahahaha! Not really.

You could say that about someone like Sarah Palin but certainly not Paul Ryan, a poofter if there ever was one.

They need a conservative as speaker, not a sell out country club RINO.

Irrefutable? He's endorsed by Boehner and Reid. That alone should kill his nomination.

Don’t leave Luis Guitierez off that list. Solid bi-partisan support.

Ryan is not the fringe. Ryan is conservative main stream

Agree. Assuming the fat lady is taking the stage, the silver lining is when Ryan proves to be Boner II, Trump will clinch.

Ryan tried to cut benefits for disabled veterans & recently retired veterans. Enough said.

Lost me at the first sentence:

"Conservatives would be nowhere without him. Now they need to back him. Case closed. "

Uh, conservatives are no where. What has Congress done for us, besides grandstanding once in a while?

It is conservative to bring in as many third world foreigners and make them citizens as possible? How is it conservative to construct a permanent Socialist majority and thus the permanent Democrat One Party Bureaucratic State? The guy may not desire a rigid totalitarian government but he is intent on doing the things that will emplace just that outcome.

Here's the bottom line for me: will he fight Obama?

The answer to that, based on his history, is no.

Emphatically no.

Will he fight the freedom caucus? Yes.

Emphatically yes.

I hope I'm wrong, but the GOPe better understand that they are sitting on a case of dynamite and playing w/ a tinderbox.

Amnesty for illegal aliens is the opposite of conservative.

Luis Gutierrez approves.
