For the better part of his relatively young career in the United States Senate, Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has been one of the most beloved and hated politicians in Washington, D.C. Few have obtained such a passionate group of followers or an equally passionate gaggle of haters...

Trumps political past makes Democratic presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee look like a rock of stability. At one time or another, Trump has supported Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, partial-birth abortion, single-payer health care, and a variety of other far-left causes.
And yet, just a handful of months prior to the start of the GOP primaries, Trump remains at the top of the Republican heap, and the distance between him and the conservative champion Cruz is staggering. According to Real Clear Politics, Trumps average level of support is roughly 27 percent of Republicans, compared to only 8 percent for Cruz....

A conservative Republican not only has an exceptional chance of winning this election, it may be the best opportunity conservatives have had since Ronald Reagan to set things right. The next president will likely get to replace two Supreme Court justices, which means conservatives could very possibly control the Supreme Court and return the Constitution to its rightful place as the chief law of the land.
Its obvious conservatives are sick of losing one political war after another with leftists, but does anyone really believe Cruz is part of the establishment? Does anyone really think Cruz is a liberal-in-disguise sellout? Cruz is a man who stood on the Senate floor for 21 straight hours to defend liberty, and now conservatives are abandoning him.
After spending years of accusing Republicans of betraying conservative values, conservatives are betraying conservative values by turning on one of the few people who never turned on them.

I don’t know about Conservatives, but Republicans have!
I haven’t.
Its too important to me to trust the country with anyone but a solid conservative constitutionalist and as I’ve gotten older I think about what I will say to my maker when I meet him.
There is a winning tactic! Accuse the voters you want to vote for you of betraying you!
Why YES your highness, how dare we think of voting for anyone but your royal eminence!
Prepare for all the flimsy excuses which would, rightly, be loudly criticized if a GOP elected official tried to use them.
Did Republicans abandon their Conservatives in 1988 - 2012?
No. Conservatives voted for Conservatives.
How did that work out?
Democrats, Independents, and “moderate” Republicans vote in the primaries.
For some reason folks can’t grasp that Conservatives are not even the whole Republican party, let alone the majority of the Independents and Democrats too.
Who knew?
We haven’t been able to get a straight up Conservative nominated since Reagan.
This is news?
And Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat union boss.
He woke up, and so has Donald Trump.
Conservativs seem to be quick to betray anyone who doesn’t follow their hard line — exactly.
The left is no different. Stray off the reservation and be prepared to be vilified.

Then politely ask him to stop sitting on the sidelines and start reeving people up.
Between the constant “wins” at some nothing straw poll in podunk county, or how many no-name state reps and pastors he now is paying in multiple states to be on his “leadership teams”, he is inspiring virtually no one the way Trump has. Like it or not.
Trump gets thousands to show up this far out of the primaries. And they are genuinely excited that someone is saying what they believe, and not being afraid of the left or the media.
Cruz is not owed a vote. He needs to earn it. It’s an insult to think that conservatives are expected to just crown him as if those efforts were just a performance for presidential votes down the line.
TPA and 3 secrete trade deals, Patriot Act, Teddy Bears for invaders at the border? Has Trump given Teddy Bears to invaders?
Indeed. The comparison is apt. The extremes of neither party do very much independent thinking.
Cruz is the best candidate we’ve had in decades. He isn’t perfect, but he is the best I’ve seen since Reagan.
So whats up?
A couple of things. Part of it is, he has the same problem any conservative has in breaking through the media wall. Debate night, as is usual with conservatives, he may stand there all night and get one question.
And if the tree falls in the forest and the media pretends it doesn’t exist, it isn’t going to poll well. :)
Thats one thing.
He hurt himself with TPA, though his twenty minute take-down of McConnell was a good save. It was delicious.
He has been pounded by his colleagues for doing the job they promised to do, but didn’t do and won’t do.
He has hurt himself with his H1b visa policy. I hope he will re-think it. This is not a good time to be proposing massive increases in work visas at a time when people are out of work.
Which brings us to Trump, who has been all over the map on every issue. The one issue he is firm on is immigration, and this is the year for it. People all across the spectrum want the border secured, they want people deported, they don’t want another million “Syrians”, and they are sick of being called racists for wanting the law enforced. Trump has been fearless on that subject and it cuts across all ideological lines. Which is why he has been largely bullet-proof up until now.

Sadly, the term "conservative" has been conflated with "Republican". While there is some overlap, the Republican Party has been oozing to the Left since Goldwater. I didn't leave them. They left me.
I’m for Cruz all the way!
Which is EXACTLY why we need 8 years of Trump/Cruz, and then 8 more of Cruz/??? - it's a solid plan, if put into practice. I'm ready for Trump - we need him to complete the destruction of the GOPE - but he'll need to have Cruz as his VP.
This conservative hasn’t, CRUZ/TRUMP 2016!
