Im not thrilled, Im not thrilled.
Donald Trump said Thursday hes not thrilled with the idea of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan being Speaker of the House and expressed shock that Republicans havent found a more conservative candidate.
Im not thrilled, Im not thrilled, Trump said of Ryan on the John Fredericks Show. Not easily, I mean its not that you are given a choice. Dont forget that you have people in Washington, Republicans that are going to be making a choice, and it looks like he is going to be the one. You saw what happens this morning and it looks like he is going to be the one. And if you have to live with it, you have to live with it, John. We cant go crazy. We cant say oh gee, I refuse to show up, or I refuse to do something.
Trump said Ryan was soft on immigration, the key issue of Trumps campaign.
Now hes very, very weak on illegal immigration, I dont like that, you know hes an amnesty person, and you know Im not thrilled with that, said Trump. Because you get amnesty and you do something wrong, you get amnesty, thats not what we are all about. And other things that you mentioned. And at the same time, a very conservative group in Washington, that you like and that I like and you know it looks like they are backing him. You want to sort of have a group of people that are unified and they do need somebody. Im a little surprised that somebody more conservative and tough, because they need some toughness, and smartness, and Im a little surprised that somebody more conservative and tougher on the issues has not been chosen, said Trump. Im a little surprised, actually. Trumps views on Ryan have shifted between support and criticism in recent years.
Trump told Fox And Friends in 2011, Well, I think Boehner is doing a good job, but hes trying to get the best number he can and it looks like hes got the votes, but the really big one is going to be what Paul Ryan, who I think is also a terrific guy, just absolutely terrific, what hes trying to do, thats the long-term picture.
On Twitter earlier this week, Trump praised Ryan, saying, Paul Ryan is far from my first choice, but a very nice guy. The Republicans should go for tough and (very) smart this time - no games!
Still, Trump has been critical of the Wisconsin congressman in past, saying his budget would doom Republican electoral prospects.

Well, eventually you have to have a speaker. Did the Freedom Caucus have any one that could win the necessary 218 votes? Did Daniel Webster have any shot at winning the votes he needed? So we get a consensus candidate none of the conservatives are happy with, but they felt they had no choice to support.
I wonder why Republicans didn’t look outside the House. The Speaker doesn’t need to a Congresscritter last I checked. I’d have thought the Freedom Caucus would have pushed for something like that rather than agreeing to go with Ryan. It seems like even the real conservatives in the House can’t really agree on much, stick together, or otherwise set much of an agenda.

Ryan won’t last more than 60 days, the Kabuki charade will be ovah ....
How about we nominate a conservative for POTUS instead of Trump?
Yes on the Hugh Hewitt show.

He’ll likely talk about it more at his Miami rally tonight.
How’s that worked out so far?
Trump praised Ryan, saying, Paul Ryan is far from my first choice, but a very nice guy. The Republicans should go for tough and (very) smart this time - no games!
How do you call that statement praise?
You mean after it is too late to make any difference, right?
Because just a couple weeks ago Trump said he was "okay" with Paul Ryan as speaker but he didn't like that Ryan was "anti-Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security". Basically Trump was complaining that Ryan wanted to cut entitlements - which is typically the Democrat talking points used against Republicans that want to reign in spending.
The conservatives in the house are useless. They’ll throw out a little red meat to keep us from bailing on them but, for the most part, they’re just as gutless as the RINOS. My old liberal poli sci teacher in college was right when he said that liberals in DC fight way harder for their beliefs than conservatives do. So true.
Well...in a byatch slap kind of way. Lol.
Actually, the vote hasn’t taken place yet.
Wake up Mr. Trump!
Conservatives in DC should be on the endangered species list.
Can anybody name a true conservative other than Cruz?
No, but the time to influence that result is already passed. The Freedom Caucus took their vote and a super majority supported Ryan. The outcome is already sealed.
Then you need to tell Cruz to take an active stance against Paul Ryan being made speaker, but I doubt it. Ted’s big money daddies want Ryan in so he’ll evade and not answer the question.
Another point in Trumps favor.
Ah, yep, I have not seen that article yet, but that wouldn’t surprise me at all.
It really is becoming apparent that Americans have no friends or allies or representation in government.
We have been utterly sold out.
Courage.
