The best humor has at least a grain of truth in it. A grain, or a gram, as it were.

Yes and this was ISIS laundered

Is that speculation, or have you seen something that confirms it? That was my first thought....is this part of how the Sauds finance ISIS?

The US needs better friends. The scum of the earth should be our enemies.

Speculation, but based on historical precedent, and ideological proclivities.

captagon pills on their private jet to Saudi Arabia

Captagon pills have “the typical effects of a stimulant” and produce “a kind of euphoria – you’re talkative, you don’t sleep, you don’t eat, you’re energetic,” according to Lebanese psychiatrist Ramzi Haddad.

The drugs are reportedly the Takfiri Daesh militants’ favorite narcotics.

******

Fenethylline is metabolized by the body to form two drugs amphetamine (24.5% of oral dose) and theophylline (13.7% of oral dose), both of which are active stimulants themselves. The physiological effects of fenethylline therefore result from a combination of all three drugs.

it was used in the treatment of “hyperkinetic children” (what would now be referred to as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and, less commonly, for narcolepsy and depression. One of the main advantages of fenethylline was that it does not increase blood pressure to the same extent as amphetamine and so could be used in patients with cardiovascular conditions

Abuse of fenethylline of the brand name Captagon is most common in Arab countries and counterfeit versions of the drug continue to be available despite its illegality.

Many of these counterfeit “Captagon” tablets actually contain other amphetamine derivatives that are easier to produce, but are pressed and stamped to look like Captagon pills. Some counterfeit Captagon pills analysed do contain fenethylline however, indicating that illicit production of this drug continues to take place.

Fenethylline is a popular drug, allegedly used by militant groups in Syria and Lebanon. It is manufactured locally in a cheap and simple process. According to some leaks, militant groups would also export the drug in exchange for weapons and cash.

What exactly is ‘Captagon’, the drug of choice for Isis fighters?

Isis fighters in Syria have been using an amphetamine called ‘Captagon’ to stay alert in battle – a drug unknown outside the Middle East.

Made out of easily available legal substances, this drug was first created in the sixties to treat hyperactivity, narcolepsy and depression but was banned in eighties for being too addictive.

While cheap to make, it has a street value of $20 (£12.90) and revenues from its sale reaches into the millions of dollars – part of which is believed to be used by the Islamic State and other militia groups in Syria to buy weapons.

Captagon: the amphetamine fuelling Syria’s civil war

The drug, widely used in the Middle East but unknown elsewhere, is keeping fighters on their feet during gruelling battles and generating money for more weapons

As Syria sinks ever deeper into civil war, evidence is starting to emerge that a brutal and bloody conflict that has left more than 100,000 people dead and displaced as many as two million is now also being fuelled by both the export and consumption of rapidly increasing quantities of illegal drugs.

Separate investigations by the news agency Reuters and Time magazine have found that the growing trade in Syrian-made Captagon – an amphetamine widely consumed in the Middle East but almost unknown elsewhere – generated revenues of millions of dollars inside the country last year, some of which was almost certainly used to fund weapons, while combatants on both sides are reportedly turning to the stimulant to help them keep fighting.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Syria has long been a transit point for drugs coming from Europe, Turkey and Lebanon and destined for the wealthy Gulf states. But the breakdown of law and order, collapse of the country’s infrastructure and proliferation of armed groups have now turned it into a major producer, Reuters says. Production in Lebanon’s Bekaa valley – a traditional centre for the drug – fell 90% last year from 2011, with the decline largely attributed to production inside Syria.

Captagon, the trademark name for the synthetic stimulant fenethylline, was first produced in the 1960s to treat hyperactivity, narcolepsy and depression, but was banned in most countries by the 1980s as too addictive. It remains hugely popular in the Middle East; Saudi Arabia alone seizes some 55m tablets a year, perhaps 10% of the total thought to be smuggled into the kingdom.
